"Hide," Kent said. "Just in case."
Kent walked to the door slowly, as the knock grew louder.
"I'm coming!" He shouted.Kent opened the door. But it's not Albert like Darren thought it would be. It's some man who looked familiar.
It's the guy who was hanging out with Albert that day when those kids threw rocks at Darren's window.
"Albert and I are contacting our fellows," The man said. "and don't think you're safe."
Kent backed up.
So what's your name?" Kent asked with a hand out to shake his hand like he doesn't care if he's being awkward or rude.
"Ryan Pelton" Ryan said, scuffing his shoes on the mat.
Darren watched from the corner he was hiding behind. He kept quiet.
"Where's the kid?" Ryan asked.
"He's not here." Kent lied.
"You're a liar and a rat."
"Please don't make me call the cops."
Ryan sighed. "Cops don't like me."
"Well when I call them," Kent grinned. "you will learn to love them."
"Henry! Our dear friend hated cops." Ryan explained.
Kent looked back at Darren and then back at Ryan, then looked back at Darren. Something was going to happen. Ryan noticed something fishy.
"Darren!" Kent shouted. "Run!"
Darren started to run outside like when he was playing kickball. Kent went to the telephone installed on the wall and jammed in some numbers which appeared to be 911.
"Yes," Kent said, breathing hard. "177 Crook Lane" He told the operator everything.
Darren hid behind a tree. Ryan was out looking for him. When he looked away, he ran for it as fast as he could, feeling like a jet. He was breathing hard.
He's been running so hard and fast, and eventually he's seen a fence in the distance. He keep a positive attitude and just ran faster, and faster, and faster. He reached the fence and jumped over it. How did I do that? I've never jumped over a fence.
He ran into town, running past everyone. Darren stopped, out of breath and walked into a store.
"Young man?" A woman said.
She looked in her 50s, wearing a button-up shirt and jeans with beat-up shoes, her makeup looked all over the place. Darren picked up a bag of chips and place it on the counter and smiled.
"Having a good day?" She smiled back. "also, your nose is bleeding."
He didn't even respond about the good day part, he just worried about my nose.
"My nose?" He asked worriedly.
"Yes," She said." your nose."
"I just got done running away from a cruel man." He explained.
"Harsh.," She said. "what is said man's name?"
"Ryan Pelton."
"Shit. Shit. Shit." She repeated. "Hide behind the counter with me. You're in danger."

He hid behind the counter.
"I want to make sure you're safe," She said." can you go in the back room?"
