Jack shined a small light as he quietly made his way through the room, doing his best to not wake Toby. All he wanted at the moment was to take his sweaty mask off. He had the unholy thing on for the entire day and night, all thanks to Toby.
Yes, Jack could take the resin mask off, but that would mean Toby would see his face. Mostly Toby would see his eyes…or the lack thereof. The staple of the face. The centerpiece. One of the first things people look at when they meet you. What every song mentions for their beauty. The thing Jack was missing.
Even though it wasn’t technically his fault for his lack of eyes, he couldn’t help but feel shame for them. Ever since he had lost his eyes and gained his dark voids, everyone’s been scared of him. They don’t like his uncanny look, even if aside from his eyes he looked mostly human. No one paid attention to the claws, elf-like ears or the rows of sharp teeth. They only paid attention to his empty eye sockets, which constantly leaked a tar and blood mixture.
“Jack?” Toby groggily asked while sitting up from his bed.
“What?” Jack asked while quickly turning around so Toby wouldn’t see his face, even though it was dark within the room.
All Toby had to do was flick the lamp on, and boom, Jack’s face would be revealed. He was quite bitter that he had set his mask on his desk, which was far enough away that he couldn’t get to it without being noticeable.
“Why are you acting so weird?” Toby questioned while doing the one thing Jack really hoped he wasn’t going to do.
“Shit, Twitch, do you have to turn on the lights?”
“Yes because I’m confused. And why are you facing that way?”
“Do you have to ask so many questions?”
Toby sighed and stood up, even though he wasn’t actually supposed to. Once he was standing behind Jack he tapped the demon on the shoulder. Said demon smacked his hand, telling him to go back to bed. In true Toby fashion, he didn’t listen, instead tapping Jack on the shoulder again.
“Are you hurt or something? Normally you’re a hard-ass, you’re actually freaking me out.” Toby stated, standing his ground, “Let me see.”
Jack stayed silent, contemplating whether or not he wanted to give Toby an aneurysm with his face alone.
“C’mon,” Toby flicked the back of Jack’s ear, quickly learning it enraged the demon, who turned around and grabbed his arm.
The teen’s eyes widened as he stared into the gaping voids for eyes. He was at a loss for words, so lost in Jack’s lack of eyes. Not only that, but his teeth, which he was baring at the brunette. They were sharp. It explained a lot about Jack. The sharp teeth made it better to eat meat, that meat being human kidneys and whatever else he ate on a regular basis.
"Y'know, this actually makes a lot of sense now."
"What?" Jack's anger subsided, now focused on Toby's lack of fear.
"Well I heard Brian call you Eyeless Jack, now I know why you're called that. And everything else just seems like normal 'demon' shit, so..." Toby turned around and walked back to his bed, "Thanks for sharing, night."
Jack just stood there, lost in confusion. Toby wasn't scared. He thanked him for nothing. Now he was just going back to sleep? What?
