BAJI KEISUKE

There was a moment where Baji Keisuke hated the rain.

It was gloomy, unforgiving, and mocking. The rain never forgave him and he can never forgive himself on that rainy day as everything become cold: his skin, his wet hair, and the luggage on his back that gets colder and colder as he walks alone on a desolate road.

It was cold.

But the rain will not get him this time. The rain will not get you this time. How can the rain take you away from him again? When you're walking under a sturdy decorated roof while wearing a wedding gown? He can see the smile on your lips behind the veil. It felt like eons when he last saw it.

It felt like a lifetime when he last saw you. Warm, smiling, and...

“You look like a loan shark in that tuxedo.”

... still a bitch.

“Let me remind you that you're getting married to this loan shark look-alike.” Keisuke grinned and replied with a playful banter, and hooked his arm to yours.

“Can I still change my mind?”

Baji Keisuke faked a glare and frown then after seeing your grin, that shit eating grin that even a wedding veil cannot hide, made him form a grin himself.

“Nah,” he started. “You're stucked with me in this life.” He muttered and smiled.

It was a vow that no rain nor disorder can take away from Keisuke.

***

“Do you think we're lovers in our past lives?” He heard you randomly ask as you sprawl on your couch, a bag of chips on hand as Baji Keisuke cook your dinner. On the table beside the couch is a small framed picture, a miniature of your many other wedding photos.

You've been married for three years now. And Keisuke treasured every day and every waking moment with you.

That's why a smile, twisted and painted with bitterness, made a way to his lips and regret swirled in his eyes. “We should be.

We could've been.”
