"Melody?!" I crouch down next to her. She was barely alive "Melody? Can you hear me?" I cried as the front door flung open and Loki came flying in.
"Emily! Are you alright? I heard a scream" He panics. I scream Melody's name again "What happened?"
"Someone attacked my best friend, Melody" Loki kneels down next to Melody. He examines the wound and his eyes flared with anger. he looked like he was having trouble controlling himself "We have to call 911"
"That won't help" Loki clenched his fist and covered his mouth. I looked down at my best friend, clenching her blood-stained shirt.
"Did Volstagg's men do this?"
"It's possible. He could have sent someone looking for you after you vanished" Loki let out a shaky sigh.
"And instead of me, They found Melody"
"Emily, I promise you that whoever did this, They will pay. I will see to it personally" Loki promised, Placing both hands on my face. I believe him. Melody gurgles weakly "I am so sorry, But she doesn't have much time left"
"No! You have to do something! Please help her!" I let go of Melody and I clutched at Loki's suit. He refuses to look at me "Please" I beg. He doesn't say anything "What good are vampires if they can't save one life" I push him away and grab my phone. But Loki puts his hand over mine.
"By the time the ambulance gets here, She'll be gone" I reach for Melody's hand and squeeze it.
"This isn't right!" I cried. Tears stinging my eyes. I grip my hair at the roots. This cannot be happening! Fury is gonna kill me. He will bring SHIELD, The Avengers. Everyone. He will open the gates of hell when he finds out that I let his favourite and only niece die. I let my hair go as it dawns on me, There is a way "Turn her"
"What?" Loki's mouth dropped.
"You can do that, Make her a vampire?"
"I... I shouldn't" Loki licked his lips and looked at the door. I swear if he makes a run for it, I'll stake him myself.
"It's the only choice we have!" I yell.
"It's against the pact. I don't have any openings in my clan"
"Fuck what the council want! She is my best friend" I scream.
"I know it's difficult but --" Melody's breath lessens,
"Loki, I'm begging you. Save her" I blink a tear away. I touch her cheek. Tears streamed down my face. Her hand and feet twitch "Please, Fight Mel. don't die on me. Please"
"Em?" she gurgles.
"I couldn't have survived living in this city if it wasn't for you" I look down at my best friend. Loki puts a hand on my shoulder "Loki, Please don't let her die" I stare into Loki's eyes. I can see the centuries of pain and loss he has had to endure. And the toll it has taken.
"... I'm hoping that I am not going to regret this" Loki mutters as he takes his suit jacket off and kneels next to Melody, Rolling up his sleeve "Emily, You need to understand that by doing this, I am plunging all of us into a world of danger"
"I don't care. I will deal with it. Just save her" Loki closes his eyes and breathes deeply. His fangs appear as he opens his eyes.
"For you" he mumbles. He bites his wrist, Tearing the flesh a little. He presses the wound to her lips.
"What are you doing?"
"Feeding her my blood. She has to technically die with vampire blood in her system. But her heart will keep beating. Think a twisted version of Vampire Diaries meets Twilight" At first Melody doesn't move but slowly her mouth starts to move. Drinking the life-giving liquid "My blood will taste like nectar to her."
"Is it working?" I tuck my hair behind my ear.
"Yes, it is" Loki points to her neck. Her puncture wounds heal quickly "We need to go now!" Loki scoops Melody up in his arms. I grab Loki's jacket and follow him out the door.

Minutes later, I am sat in the back of Loki's car. Melody's head is on my lap. Her breathing was faint. Loki streaks down the street. Narrowly avoiding cars.
"Come on! Move people!" He honks his horn.
"Where are we going!?" Thankfully, I had my seatbelt on but I still had to grip the handle above the window "And why are we in such a hurry?"
"An hour after being bitten by a vampire is when the new blood has the highest chance of becoming feral. There's a ritual we can do to help her but we need to get to my office now" I hold Melody close in my arms as Loki swerves around a taxi. Beeping his horn. I blink back tears.
"Hold on Mel" I glanced down at Melody. I stroked her face as I thought of the first week of living in New York. It was starting to turn cold. I look up and see that Loki is staring at me, His eyes soften as he looks at me via the rearview mirror.
"Are you okay?"
"No, not really" I sniffed.
"What were you thinking about?"
"The first time I met Melody. I had only been living with her for a week and I came home after a long day of job hunting" I zoned out, Thinking about the memory.

"You ate my leftover pizza!?" I pinched the bridge of my nose. I was starving.
"I was hungry. I have ordered pizza. I was just so hungry that I wasn't going to wait for the delivery man" Melody shuffled on the spot. Even though she was my ex-boss boss's niece, She was rather annoying to me.
"That was my dinner" I rubbed my tummy. I was looking forward to that "I'm so broke right now"
"I will make it up to you. I swear. What's your favourite pizza?" Melody smiled at me.
"I don't know... Meat feast?" I ran a hand over my head.
"Oh," Melody tapped her chin. The doorbell rings. Melody opens it and on the door stop is a man with like 10 pizzas "I wasn't sure what you like, So I got one of every pizza" She held the boxes out "I said that I ordered pizza, Which one do you want?"

I was brought back to reality by the sound of Melody's pained groans. She is still out cold and the wounds on her neck are healing.
"Is she going to be okay?"
"I won't lie, But there's a chance that she will become feral. It's a 50% chance"
"Just like Axl's wife" I bit the inside of my cheek. I don't know how I would be able to handle Melody being a mindless beast. Would I have to kill her? "Can't you brand her?"
"No. Not until I know she has successfully turned. And the first night is the hardest" Loki shook his head.
"Why?" I grip Melody as Loki flies around a corner. If it wasn't for my seatbelt, We would have gone smashing into the other door. I can see his company's logo in the background.
"Did you ever watch Doctor Who with the cybermen and when they get their emotions back?"
"Was that David Tennant's era?" I nodded. I didn't realise that Loki was such a nerd. Melody would love him.
"Yeah, Think that but filled with blood lust and never-ending hunger"
"My gods" I leaned back in my seat. Melody was screwed. She was never very good at controlling her emotions on a good day.

Loki screeches to a half outside his building. He comes to the back and takes Melody from me in his arms and we rush into his lobby.
"Quickly" At the right of me, Hannah bursts out of a conference room and comes rushing over.
"Loki? Emily? What the hell is going on?"
"Hannah, Help me get this one downstairs" Hannah looks at Mel's limp body and Loki's darkened, Yet slightly hot, Expression. Her mood instantly changes as she clocks on what has happened.
"Are you out of your mind? We need to talk about this" Hannah nearly stamped her foot. I really don't like this bitch.
"Later. If you are not going to help us. Move out my way. We don't have much time" Loki glares at his VP.
"Fine" Hannah reluctantly moves and we bring Mel inside.
"I don't understand what is going on"
"Emily, I will explain later but we need to move. There is no time to waste" I nodded. I trust this man. He will keep my best friend safe. He will make sure she lives.

Loki carries Melody into the elevator and we ride it down to the basement archives.
"Oh joy. This place again" The door pings open and the creepy dead-looking Munnin rushes to greet us. And by us, I mean Loki.
"Mr Odinson! Sir, Whatever can I help you with?" Munnin pushes his glasses up his nose.
"We need to get this girl into a coffin now" Loki shuffled Melody in his arm.
"Of course, Of course. Right this way" The man nods.
"He was being a lot helpful this time around. Being the CEO does have its perks" Munnin rushes to a wood panel in the wall and pushes it open, revealing a hidden set of stairs.

We descend together to a dark room. It only has one thing in it.
"Is that a coffin?" Loki lays Melody down in it "Is that where you sleep?"
"This would be a great time to tell you that coffins are not for sleeping. That is an old wives tale" Loki looked down at Melody and then at me "Placing a new blood in a dark, enclosed space for about 6 hours gives them a greater chance of not turning into a feral"
"How much of a percentage are we talking about? 60%? 70%?" I hope it was more but knowing my luck, it was going to be less.
"I don't know. I've done everything I can but in the end, it is out of our hands" I wish I knew what to do. There is never anything like this on TV. Hollywood really needs to be reeducated about vampires.
"I think I know another way to help her" I click my fingers. Loki tilted his head at me. As did Munnin who pulled out a roll of paper "When I was with the clanless, they said human blood can keep the beast inside them at bay"
"Human blood does make us stronger"
"So would give it Mel a better chance if she got blood from someone she had a connection with?" I look between the two vampires. Loki looked at Munnin
"It is possible" Munnin scribbled.
"Is this from the one who rescued you from Volstagg?" Loki folded his arms.
"yes, but it doesn't matter who told it to me. If it helps Mel then it helps" I put my hands on my hips.
"There are no scientific facts to support your... friend's theory"
"What better time to experiment" I grinned.
"She won't be able to feed just yet" Munnin added.
"What about if we leave some blood in there for her? That way she won't go all feeding frenzy when she wakes up"
"And where do you suggest we get the blood from?" Munnin scribbles on his scroll. Vampires can be so thick.
"Eh, Willing human right here" I point to myself.
"Are you sure?" Loki asks. I nod. Munnin fetches an old-looking goblet that may as well have been from Lord Of The Rings and Loki takes my wrist, Raising my hand to his lips. then with his fangs, he gently tears at a skin.
"Ow," we watch as my blood slowly drips into the goblet. We wait till it is about a quarter full "Is that enough?"
"We don't want you to lose too much" Loki places the cup into the coffin and closes the lid "Godspeed Melody"
"motherfucker, this hurts" I hissed as I went to put my hand in my mouth. Loki grabs my hand.
"Here" Loki tears open his finger and presses his blood on mine. I shiver as I feel the tingle that kills the pain "You should come back in 6 hours. I won't be long, I have more rituals to perform. Ones that are not made for mortal eyes"
"Sure" I was raised by a witch. I doubt there is anything I haven't seen before. Though I do wish she had taught me some spells. Either way, I leave the dark room and head up the stairs.

While I wait for Loki to finish whatever he is doing, I head back up the stairs and go back to the archives. While waiting, I saw another crystal on the floor. and as if I was a puppet, I reached out to touch it.
"So pretty" Images flash in my head. I saw Sif in a beautiful dress. A man with an angry-looking face and a girl with a face slick with blood. I touch it and I am engulfed with red smoke.

A hundred years ago, in the ballroom of a grand castle. A teetering mountain of tables, chairs and cabinets has been placed against the door. A hulking man in heavy armour shoves another table into the makeshift barricade. making the whole thing wobble.
"That will hold them. For the moment" Distant shouts and screams from outside can be heard from inside the stonewalls "And here come the vermin" A door swings open and Sif sweeps in. She is looking very different.
"Is the door secure, Randal?" Sif demanded.
"As well as it can" The sounds of tiny footsteps interrupt them. A small child, Eyes glowing and tears staining their face, comes running towards the pair.
"Doom! Despair! Destruction! We've lost!" The young female panicked.
"Michelle, Please tell me you haven't figured that out?" Sif rolled her eyes.
"In case you haven't noticed, But there are at least 3 dozen humans out there!" Randal punches the nearest wall. Shattering the stone.
"Girl, This is all your fault! You and your parties. Acting as if you are royalty!" he shoves a finger at Michelle.
"I am of royal blood, A few decades ago maybe, But it is still in my veins" Michelle smacks Randal's hand away "Do not place the blame all on me! You killed the peasant girls"
"You weren't complaining when you were drinking from one" Randal rolled his eyes.
"Oh shut up! You are both at fault!" Sif rubbed the sides of her forehead.
"Oh, really Sif. If you hadn't ripped the Duke's lower intestines out and played jump rope with it then the humans wouldn't have noticed anything" Randal snapped at Sif.
"he was an ass and needed to be taught a lesson" Sif flung her hair over her shoulder.
"Perhaps we should just throw Sif to the angry mob" Michelle offered as Randal made a move towards her.
"Bring it, sir. I'll knock you out" Sif grins baring her teeth as she takes a step forward "I would love to see you try" The two are about to start fighting when a snarl can be heard from the side.
"That is enough!" Odin descends from the top of the grand staircase.
"Odin" Sif bows. A cry from outside rattles through the castle. loud thuds rain down on the main door and the barricade shudders "The villagers are here"
"Yes they are" Odin pulls his shoulders back "And by the way, Michelle, your parties are always a delight" He pats her on the head "In truth, None of us is to blame. This is the natural course of our lives. Our fate if you will"
"It should not be our fate to be hunted and chased out of homes like vermin, every other decade!" Sif yells. Odin turns to Sif, Places a hand on her chin and forces her to look at him. Sif shivers at his touch.
"We may be eternal but a path has been set out for us" he then places a hand on Randal's neck "The destination has been written, not the journey" Odin looks at the door. It is straining against the objects blocking his way "This was always going to happen. Humans hate what they do understand"
"So what do we do?" Michelle asked.
"We embrace our fate! Let us show them our true power" Odin holds his sword. Sif flicks out a dagger. Randel draws his sword as he faces the door and Michelle giggles as she wields a butcher's knife. At any moment, the group will be invaded by the villagers.

The doors shattered, splinted wood clattering to the floor. Through the cracks, The villager's face can be seen.
"They are in here!" one cries out. Odin and Sif snarl.
"Kill them!"
"Freaks!"
"Monsters!"
"Odin, there are too many of them! What should we do?" Michelle backs away.
"Remember, They are prey and we are the predators!" And with a final crash, The barricade falls, apart and the villagers rush in screaming "Tonight, We feast" Odin moves impossibly fast across the room and leaps on the first villagers he sees.
"Monster!" the man then screams as Odin sinks his teeth into his throat, Tearing it to shreds.
"Oh lord protect us"
"Wrong type of Gods in here" Odin whispered as he ran past, using his bare hand to take a man's head off.
