I gripped the window sill in fear, How did they find us? Loki said that no one knew about this place. Loki leaned on the wall next to the window, eyes closed.
"I thought no one knew about this place?!" I whispered. I looked up at Loki. I could tell by his face that he was beyond pissed. I felt sorry for whoever got in his way.
"And more importantly, What's in that truck?" Sif frowned.
"I doubt it is good whatever it is," I stood up, Moving away from the window.
"I don't suppose there's a secret tunnel out of here?" Sif looked around.
"No," Loki shook his head.
"Even if we tried to run, They'd see us" I glared at Hogun. I wanted to punch him the other day and now, I might just get the chance.
"Emily is right, There is only one thing we can do" Loki stood up "We're gonna fight them?"
"Now you're talking" Sif grinned. Her eyes turned a different shade of red.
"Are you sure we should fight them" I whispered.
"He's left us no choice. We take them out or die trying," Sif sighed. Outside, I could see Hannah honking the horn of the truck, Flashing the headlights "I guess it is time for war,"
"Come on, Loki! We haven't got all night! It's not polite to keep company waiting" Hogun taunts. Loki grits his teeth and clenches his fists.
"Let's end this"
"Loki, Take a weapon" Sif clicks her fingers. Loki grabs a chair and smashes it against the wall, Leaving just one of its legs in his hand. Sif breaks the other two legs, Spinning the stakes in her hands.
"Yeah, Like that! You can--" Before I can finish my sentence, Loki tosses the wooden leg to me "Wait, What?"
"You're gonna need that"
"Me? What about you? You fight better with daggers" I tried to hand Loki the stake but he pushed it back to me.
"For everything that Hogun has done? I'll kill him with my own two hands" Loki takes one step towards the door and I reach out to grab his hand.
"Wait..." I whispered. Loki turned and faced me. his face soft and he smiled. I noticed that Sif rolled her eyes and went to put out the fire "This might be the end right? The last time we ever see each other?"
"It's certainly possible" Loki refused to look at me. I put my hand on his cheek.
"But if it is, I just wanted to..." I crane my head up, Pressing my lips to Loki's. He wraps an arm around me and pulls me close, Kissing me deeply, tenderly. After one long, Wonderful minute, He pulls away. He looks into my eyes, Our foreheads resting together.
"We will make it out of this, Emily, I promise you that" He touches one last kiss to my lips and another to my forehead before taking a step back "Ready, darling?"
"... Ready" I grip the stake tightly.
"No one lives forever" Sif cracks her knuckles, Then gives me a sideways smile, A look impossibly complex and inscrutable. Loki walks to the front door with fresh energy and determination. He throws it open and the three of us step outside.
Hannah and Hogun watch us exit the building from the safety of the truck.
"Oh well hello there. I was worried that we'd have to smash this quaint little house down" Hogun placed his hands in his pockets.
"And he has his little pet with him. I kinda hoped they'd eaten her by now" Hannah pouted. I am going to rip that bottle-blond hair out of her head.
"I'm going to drive this stake into her ice heart" I growled. Loki patted my shoulder as he walked past me.
"How did you find us here?" He raised his voice.
"I had Volstagg place a tracker in your arm while you were in the cells. Just in case you tried something stupid like this" Hogun shrugged as he leaned against the front grill of the truck.
"I'll deal with him later" Loki's fists clenched. I looked behind Hogun, The truck was rumbling.
"Come on, Loki. You know me, I always cover my bases" Hogun smiled. Pulling his famous politician's smile. Can not believe I voted for that guy.
"I can't believe that you are still alive after that stunt you pulled" Hannah leaned out the window.
"The window or the serum?" Loki smirked. Hannah replied that both seemed to be appropriate "I am surprisingly hard to kill. You ought to know that, Hogun" Hogun merely shrugs, his politician smile still plastered on his face.
"No matter. It's much more exciting this way. We'll extract that serum out of you even if we have to drain every last drop of your blood to get it" Hogun's eyes changed colour. They were red but Loki's was brighter.
"When this started, I wanted it to go painlessly. But now? I'm looking forward to hearing your screams" Hannah rolled up her window. What was she planning?
"You two are a good match. Ambitious, Yet lacking any moral compass" Loki shook his head.
"Better that than a lack of vision"
"Spare me" Loki rolled his eyes. As did Sif.
"It's true and you know it, Loki. You've always thought small. You can't help yourself. A serum to try to make yourself human again? What were you thinking? Why would you ever want to return to being one of those mewling sheep?" Hogun pointed to me.
"Fuck you, Hogun" I scrunched my nose up "This sheep is gonna smack you!"
"That's my girl" Loki whispered. Making me blush.
"That's always been your weakness, Loki. Your affection for humans. Your sad little nostalgia. Humans are our prey. We shouldn't be fearing them, Protecting them or even loving them" Hogun glared at me when he said even loving them. Just what was he implying? Did Loki love me? "We should be ruling over them like the gods we are!"
"You sound like Odin" Sif stated.
"Only Odin never had your serum, Did he?" Hogun crosses his arms as Loki goes silent. I could see that Hannah was typing on her phone.
"That's what all of this is about? You're the one behind the ferals" Loki snarled.
"No. not until the ball anyway. If that were me, I wouldn't have fought them. I would have let you all die. Afterwards, that's a different matter... Well, what kind of a politician would I be if I let a good crisis go to waste?"
"Then why?"
"The serum is the key to everything. If we use it, We no longer have to fear the day. The humans' greatest advantage... gone" Hogun paced up and down "No need for blood farms or viruses. We rule them openly, Directly, in the light of day. Thanks to you Loki, The age of man comes to an end. the age of vampires begins" I step forward to shout at Hogun. Prick was getting on my nerves. I think I am going to slap him.
"Hey, Hogun! You'll never defeat us!" I stepped forward. Loki grabbed my waist and pulled me away from Hogun, Holding me to his chest. Hogun laughed.
"Oh really? And what are you going to do?"
"There are two powerful vampires on our side. And you just have you. Oh and Hannah" What I wanted to do was knock his block off. Loki smirks as he cracks his knuckles and loosens his tie. Sif twirls her stakes.
"Shall we end this?"
"Oh let's" Hogun, took off his suit jacket and held up a finger "But before you get too excited. As much as I would love to fight you myself, I just can't take any chances. What with my new world order and all" Hogun turned back to the truck "Hannah, If you please"
"With pleasure" Grinning, Hannah holds up a remote and presses a button. I can hear the trucker's trailer unlatch.
*Snarl*
"Oh please, tell me that is not what I think it is?"
"My mother taught me to never lie so I won't say anything" Loki pinched his lips together.
*Snarl*
"Oh fuck" my shoulders dropped. I knew that sound all too well. The doors to the trailer flew open and out came at least 3 dozen ferals. They bust out of the truck like scrambling spiders.
"CHOW TIME, BOYS!" Hogun said as he got in the truck.
*Snarl* Gaunt limbs twitching, Veiny faces sneering as they rush towards us.
"Oh shit! What do we do!?" the first of the feral has made it to Loki. It leaps at him but he deflects it with a sharp jab to the throat.
"Emily, Run!" Loki yelled. I didn't want to run away. I wanted to help "Emily, You can't fight these! Get back to the house now!" Sif rushes to help Loki, knocking a feral aside, as I turn and rush back into the house.
I dive inside, Slamming the door behind me. I pant as I take a minute to think.
"I can't hide in here when Loki needs me" I huffed. A feral comes crashing through the window, Heading straight for me.
"*Snarl*"
"AHHH!!!" I grip the stake in my hand and I stab it straight into the bastard's chest, Driving it back into a wall and perfectly skewering its heart. It lets out a hiss and then bursts into a cloud of ash "I did it!" I cheered as the door swung open. Sif flies in, Her stakes drawn and slick with black blood.
"Emily! I saw..." She glances at the stake embedded in the wall and the ash fluttering around "Never mind" Sif glances outside the window and so do I.
"No..." I gasp. We see Loki pinned to a tree, Holding off the feral with a jagged branch as they draw closer and closer. I look at the truck and see that Hannah and Hogun are watching from the safety of their truck "They are going to kill him"
"There's too many to fight directly. We'll have to..." Her brow knotted together "I have an idea but, Full disclosure, It's dangerous and Loki will kill me if you get hurt"
"When is this job not dangerous?" I rolled my eyes, Crossing my arms.
"I need you to run out there and draw the ferals away"
"That is dangerous" I mutter. I then realised what Sif just said. I point to myself "You want me to be live bait?" Sif nodded.
"It's the only chance to split the herd. It's the only way we will get out of here alive"
"What do I need to do?" I sighed. Why did I agree to this?
"You need to draw them away as far as you can and I will ambush them from behind" I heard a yell. I look out the window and see one of the feral leaps at Loki. He weaves to the side but its claw scrapes his arm.
"Fuck it! Only live once right!" I ran a hand through my hair. Sif reaches out, Grabbing my shoulder.
"Be safe, Emily" My eyes meet hers. I nodded.
"We should get back out there" I take a deep breath, turn back to the front door and steel myself "I'm gonna need a pay raise after this"
I stepped out onto the porch, Cupping my hands around my mouth.
"HEY, UGLIES!!! FRESH MEAT HERE! NICE, CLEAN HUMAN MEAT! COME AND GET IT WHILE YOU CAN!" They weren't listening. I looked around, picked up a rock and threw it at a feral's head. It bounced off one and hit another. Their head swivels towards me, They are all hissing.
