Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ
Lilly placed the kettle over the stove top. She turned the heat on to let the water come to a boil.
She could hear the bath water running as Megumi cleaned himself up. Yūji's breathing hadn't changed, so she knew he was still asleep.
They wanted him to die there, Lilly thought.
There really wasn't any other way to put it. Three first years should not have been assigned a potential Special Grade Curse. They waited for Satoru and the second years to be unavailable and then made their move.
She wouldn't be surprised if they planted the Cursed Spirit inside the prison anyway.
Megumi didn't seem suspicious when he explained the mission to Lilly, but the boy was young and too trusting of authority figures. The idea of them actively wanting to kill Yūji might not have crossed his mind.
It would... line up with some of the things she's heard about the Society.
Satoru told her the Jujutsu Society had become stagnant with decrepit and stubborn leaders. In her experience, when the elderly lead with stubbornness, it would always breed paranoia and irrational fear against power.
Their resentment of Yūta did nothing to prove her assessment wrong.
If not for Satoru, Lilly would have targeted the Jujutsu Society years ago.
Because of her fondness for Satoru, she had refrained. Satoru wanted to create a better society, and he wanted to do it as peacefully as possible with the least amount of lives lost. He believed that by becoming a teacher he could help shape and usher in the next generation of leaders.
Bit by bit, year by year, he would rebuild the society into his image.
It was an admirable goal, and Lilly wanted to support him.
She offered to infiltrate the society, but he asked her not to. He asked her to leave it to him.
He did not want her to become a target of their megalomania (so you do not repeat paranoia). He did not want them to attack her, or worse, try to use her children against her.
Since Yūta and Yūji were still young, she had agreed at the time. Yūta had become strong enough he could defend himself, whereas Yūji was not there yet.
Lilly did not make her power known to the society to keep them from targeting her and her family.
But if they were going to target Yūji regardless... why should she stay hidden?
Would it not be better for her to come forward as another threat, another deterrent?
Should she not become a shield for her children?
Lilly reached for her phone and called Satoru. He picked up on the third ring.
"Hello my little daifuku," cooed Satoru.
"Hello my little blueberry," Lilly greeted. "Do you have five minutes?"
"Only five?"
"Only five," she said. She took a deep breath, then gave a brief recap of what had happened earlier.
"How's Yūji?"
"He's fine. He's asleep right now," she said. "I'm guessing the possession happened because he was fatigued. Megumi said he threw up in the partial domain."
"Sensitive?"
"More than likely. I can help expedite his adjustment, however–"
"He needs time out of school, and away from those scheming geezers," Satoru concluded.
