What Are We?

The Next Day, Mei's POV:

I woke up to my alarm the next day. I had stayed up late talking stuff over with my mom, she agreed that she was being too controlling and overprotective so she said to start making up for it, i could have a two day sleepover with my friends this weekend. so we'll spend tonight and sunday night at Priya's house and then all walk to school together on monday. so. excited.

I got up to take a shower and when I got out I picked out a pair of blue with the bottoms rolled up and an all time low hoodie that i stole from Mir before she moved, surprisingly it still fits. i grabbed the bag that i packed and walked out to the kitchen where i found my parents sitting at the table eating breakfast, i sat down and ate with them until i heard a knock at the door telling me that Miriam was here to walk with me.

When I got outside i saw her standing there with a bag on her shoulder and drinks in her hands. "Hey Mei, wanna help me out a bit with the drinks?" i put my hand on my chin like i was thinking before walking away and saying "You know? I think I'm good." she just ran after me. "Hey no fair! I bought you all coffee, the least you can do is carry yours." she's got a point. i grabbed my drink from her hand and while she was distracted by putting a different drink in its spot i snagged her beanie from her head and ran up ahead of her.

"Hey! get back here!" I may have not thought this through because i forgot that she was on her skateboard and much faster than me. She came speeding down the hill, and right past me. "Oh shit! Mei!!" looks like she also didn't think it through because she didn't end up stopping until Priya's house, all the way at the end of the block. luckily she rolled into the grass and slowed down enough to step off her board before she crashed into their picnic table.

when i finally got down the hill Priya was helping Miriam take drinks inside. we were the first ones here, while we were waiting on Abby and Tyler, Priya decided she was gonna go to the daisy mart to get snacks, leaving me and Miriam alone.

"Hey Mei, can I ask you something?" she's nervous, i can tell, she's fidgeting with her bracelet. "Sure, what's up?" she's not even looking at me, is it that bad? "What are we?" not what i expected. "What?" "I just, I wanna be with you Mei, but i understand if you don't want the same." "Oh my god..." she looks down like i'm gonna say something awful to her. "I'm in love with a dummy." her head snaps back up and i can see tears in her eyes. "Mir, don't cry. look at me,  i have loved you since we were kids, and not always just as friends. that bracelet i got you, the day you left. i gave it to you because i knew that the one thing i wanted to give you i never could, i want to be with you Miriam, more than anything. always."

Priya's POV:

i finished getting snacks and ran into Tyler and Abby on the way back to my house, when we got there we saw Mei and Miriam sitting on the floor, asleep and holding hands. we knew they were perfect for each other, always have been.
