The next day, Ronnie walked over to Martina's' house to meet up with her. He arrived to find her sitting on the porch. "You talk to your dad yet?" He questioned her. Martina shook her head. "He knows that we have questions about your grandfather," She replied. "I haven’t found a way to bring up the whole powers thing." She stated. Ronnie nodded in understanding. To be honest, he wasn't entirely sure how to go about it himself. "I looked through what I could salvage from my grandfather’s research," He stated. "His research seemed to stop after the particle accelerator explosion back in December 11th, 2013." He explained. Martina thought about the date and remembered something about it. "The same day as the particle accelerator explosion." She added. In their mind's, there was no way this was just some coincidence.
"You two catch on quick," A voice spoke from behind Martina. Martina and Ronnie looked to see Martina’s father, Jax, coming outside. "But what you're looking for isn't going to be in Grey's old records." He stated. Martina looked at him with a confused expression. "Grey?" She questioned. Jax and Ronnie both laughed. "That's just what he's always called grandpa." Ronnie replied. "He let me," Jax said before looking around. "But uh, let's take the rest of this conversation inside." He stated before the three of them entered the house.
Once they got inside, the trio sat at the table to continue the conversation. "Wait, so you knew why we wanted to talk?" Ronnie questioned. Jax nodded in response. "I had a feeling you'd want answers about what happened at the lab." He replied. "But we know that Star Labs is where Metahumans originated from." Martina told her father. Jax nodded as he looked to his daughter. "But, I'm referring to a more recent incident," He stated as he pulled out a tablet. "Lucky for you two, an old friend of mine found this footage before the police could." He added as the tablet contained a video of Ronnie and Martina from inside the lab. The video played and shower the moment that the two of them merged into the new Firestorm. Jax then explained that they wouldn't have to worry as the video had been removed from the system and they could trust the person who had sent it to him.
Ronnie observed the footage while Martina shook her head. "But we took the Metahuman cure," She said, trying to make sense of the transformation. "Why do we have these powers?" She questioned. Jax looked puzzled by this as well. "I'm not sure," He replied. "We didn't even think you two would have the meta gene to begin with." He explained. Both Ronnie and Martina were born at times when their families were not super-powered. Ronnie’s mother was already an adult when his grandfather became the original Firestorm, and Martina was born years after Jax had gotten rid of his power. "The cure was meant to avoid creating future Metahumans," Ronnie reminded them. "Something must've triggered the gene to reactivate itself." He theorized. "What if that was the point of the explosion," Martina questioned. "This all started on that night." She reminded Ronnie. Jax nodded in agreement. "Someone's trying to let loose all Metahumans," He stated. "But who would benefit from that kind of power?" He wondered aloud.
Meanwhile, Mark had just gotten up for the day and noticed Clara looking through the journals again. "Still no luck on Guthrie?" He questioned. Clara looked at her brother. "No, plus I've been playing catch up with this whole universal reset situation." She told him. Mark nodded in understanding. "How are you doing with all this," He questioned. "We didn't get much of a chance to talk about what happened before the mission." He stated.
Clara paused for a moment as she thought back to the last time she had seen her brother before crisis changed everything. She could remember seeing their mother being hit by an energy meant to destroy both of them. The only reason Clara and their mother were protected was because they had their totems. Mark on the other hand, nothing stopped him from being destroyed by the attack.
