"Pidgey, use sand-attack!"
Blue's Pidgey used sand attack for what must've been the sixth time. I held my hand up to my face to prevent the sand from getting in my eyes, but the battlefield was hardly visible even without sand in my eyes. I couldn't even see my own Squirtle, so I just had to guess.
"Try Bubble Beam, Squirtle!" I called out to him, and I got a weak "Squir-Squirtle!" in return. I frowned. "Hah, missed again!" Blue cried triumphantly from the other side of the battlefield. "Use gust, finish him off!" I flinched as I heard Pidgey's attack land and watched my poor Squirtle get knocked to the ground. I returned him to his Pokéball and used my phone to withdraw a revive and a potion and heal him back up.
"What a nasty way to win a fight," Guzma grumbled. "Cowardly, to exploit accuracy like that." Roark frowned. "It's... not the most honourable of strategies." I heard what they were talking about and shook my head. "No, no, don't say that!" I chuckled. Both of my friends were taken aback. "What are you talking about?" Roark asked, but I had turned back to Blue. "Hey, rematch in 10?" Blue grinned. "You're on!"
I looked back at my friends. "I was just saying how much I appreciate a hard fight!" I grinned, giddy with excitement. "I love these sorts of challenges! Come on, Squirtle, let's grind a little bit before we try again!" Squirtle was just as enthusiastic as me and hobbled after me as I walked over to the tall grass.
After a little bit of grinding, we tried again, and this time we managed to hit and KO the Pidgey. Despite it, Squirtle still got sand-attacked into oblivion, and when Bulbasaur came out he made great use of it. Blue's first move was a leech seed, and that over-turn damage combined with his tackles landing and ours missing caused me another loss. I took a deep breath as I called Squirtle back and healed him up again. "You're great with strategy!" I called out to Blue who grinned happily at the compliment.
Guzma was less amused, with crossed arms he addressed me. "How long until we're able to get through? I'm done waiting and this kid's getting on my nerves." I smiled. "I'm just going to catch something else real quick, I just need a little extra power to get through the last bit, we almost won but the leech seed damage was too much and without a way to reset the accuracy loss I had no win condition. One moment, we'll be on our way again shortly!" Guzma sighed. "Whatever, but if you don't win next time we're just going to walk past him."
I ignored him and went back to the little patch of grass we'd been training in, only to encounter a Nidoran. I was surprised, because I hadn't seen one yet. "Must be a rare encounter!" I exclaimed and immediately chucked a Pokéball. I had no problem catching the little girl and I grinned happily. "Alrighty then, would you like to help us win this battle?" I asked after letting her out of her Pokéball. She shook herself and cried her name, and I grinned. "Let's do this!" Then I noticed her level and chuckled. "After training you up a little bit that is."
I challenged Blue a third time and this time we won without much trouble. Resetting the accuracy was easy enough with a switch, and with that Nidoran and Squirtle made quick work of Blue's Pidgey and Bulbasaur. "Ugh, finally!" Guzma groaned when Bulbasaur finally fell over. "Can we go now?" Blue grinned and recalled his Pokémon. "Thanks for the battles, see you later!" he yelled and ran off. Roark and I smiled. "I'm not gonna let him pull a stunt like that next time," warned Guzma, and we chuckled before resuming our journey.
