Bucky sighed watching the sunset, Sam and him had put in a day's work on the Paul and Darlene, repairing a few minor things that would help Sarah's life run smoother. Bucky picked at the label on his beer.
"All right, What's wrong? You should be over the moon, you got that house and her family seems to be warming up to you. So what has got you running from your girl?" Sam asked, having been on the receiving end of Bucky's grumpy mood.
Bucky sighed, running a hand through his hair. "She said no. She doesn't want to live with me."
Sam looked at his partner, "Did she say no or not yet? Seven months is pretty fast."
"Not yet. But Sam, what if what I've done is too much? What if I'm not good enough? What if what I have to offer her isn't good enough?" Bucky let out in a rush, Sarah hearing that.
"Buck." She scolded, "That girl thinks you hung the moon. And you ever think that she thinks she isn't good enough? I know for a fact she is struggling with that right now. Maybe you are treating her better than she has ever been treated and that is scary and overwhelming. And what does she do when she is scared or overwhelmed?"
Bucky looked over at Sarah. "You talked? And Sunshine either retreats or shuts down if she can't escape."
Sarah nodded while Sam watched, Sarah adding. "So you go home and keep asking her opinion on the renovations on your house. FYI bookshelves and tub stay. She brought those up. And remember she loves you. Not your past or money, but sweet James Barnes, who swept her off her feet."
Bucky blushed, looking out at the water. He knew Sarah was right, he had been too buried in his own baggage to think that his Sunshine had a lifetime's worth of her own.
Meanwhile Shawna was listening to music loud enough to be heard outside. Her cousin walking up the stairs and just walking in. "Okay loser, enough moping and let's work this out. Your mom is tired of 80's hair bands." Megan sniped. Getting a throw pillow thrown at her for her trouble. "Real mature, Nani." At her cousin flipping her off. Megan rolled her eyes, sitting down and petting the dogs. "I have all day." She warned.
Shawna huffed, sitting on the other couch before hopping up to flit about in a bid for distraction. "Bucky bought that house. The one down the road. He asked me to move in with him. I told him I want to wait." She admitted. She sat on the couch. "Did I mess it up? He went to Sam's to get some space and to help repair Sarah's boat."
Megan leaned up to touch her obviously upset big cousin. "I think you made the right decision for you. And I think both of you getting some space is healthy. This courtship of yours has been really fast and from what I can see he's just as scared. He has a semi truck compared to your u haul of baggage, sweetheart. He's working through it, but you know it takes time." Megan bumped her forehead against her cousin's in an affectionate gesture. "I think you guys need to have a serious talk, clear the air. He's a good man, the kind you deserve. But I don't think it is messed up, if you both communicate."
Shawna nodded. "I want to. And I'm glad you see the good man I do."
Megan hugged her, "Now, let's get the house picked up and supper in the crock pot." She clapped her hands together as the cousins tackled housework while dancing to music.
