A shockingly delicious aroma filled the basement kitchen, when really, a horrible smell of burnt food should've been in its place. Ben Hargreeves, Diego Hargreeves and Y/N L/N were baking, and they weren't exactly known to be talented at it.

"I believe this is the first time we may have baked something that's actually good. Where did you find this recipe, Diego?" Y/N asked, icing a batch of cupcakes fresh out of the oven.

Diego stood at the stove, brewing his infamous hot chocolate, "Mom gave it to me years ago, just before we left home."

"And she didn't share with the rest of us?" Ben pouted, arranging Klaus' favorite cucumber sandwiches on a large, white platter.

With a scoff, Diego moved to turn off the stove, "She gave you her entire cookbook, you ungrateful squid, and you still suck at cooking."

Y/N chuckled at that, but Ben glared and threw a rotten tomato from the fridge at Diego. It landed on his shoulder with a perfect splat.

Number two let out a ridiculously high pitched squeal, dusting the tomato chunks off his shoulder before throwing a nearby egg at Ben, which he expertly dodged... unfortunately, Luther didn't.

"Guys, we're star-" The egg made contact with his face, the yolk splattered on his coat and in his hair. His expression was contorted into one of surprise and disgust. It was truly a comical sight.

"Luther!" Y/N exclaimed as she rushed to him with a bunch of napkins, which he gladly took out of her hands. Ben and Diego stood as still as statues, afraid of getting into yet another argument with Luther.

Thankfully, Number One seemed to be in no mood for disputes, he stood in silence for a bit as he cleaned himself up, then disposed of the napkins in a dustbin nearby.

"It smells good..." He broke the tension, Ben and Diego relaxed, and Y/N let out a happy sigh at his words.

"Thank you! We actually followed Mom's recipes this time." She chuckled.

Luther's neutral face shifted into a somewhat melancholic one at the mention of his robotic guardian, but he quickly covered it up.

"That's good..." He awkwardly commented, then scratched his head as he fell back into his silent state. It seemed like he had something he wanted to share, and this didn't go unnoticed by Ben.

"Is something wrong?" He asked his brother.

"Yeah, actually, there is." Luther sadly admitted, "But you'll hear all about it when you come upstairs. I just came to call you because we're starting."

"Oh... you found Five and Vanya?" Y/N asked.

"Vanya yes, Five no." Luther stated simply, beginning to reach for one of the mugs of hot chocolate that lay on a tray. Diego harshly swatted his hand away.

"Go, we're coming." Number Two lifted the tray of drinks. Luther obeyed, trudging up the stairs until he eventually disappeared out of sight.

"What do you think is happening?" Ben queried, referring to the urgent family meeting. Following Diego's lead, he collected the plates of cucumber sandwiches.

"It's something about mom." Y/N said, taking the tray of cupcakes and proceeding upstairs, the boys following her closely.

"Mom?" Diego asked.

"It's the only logical explanation following what happened this morning." Y/N vaguely answered.

"What happened this morning?" Diego repeated.

Ben sighed, "Just try not to kill anyone, Diego."

Author's Note
Hello! I actually just realized that I haven't done any author's notes in this book so far, so here's my first one! I'll probably be doing a lot more as the story progresses :D

How is everyone liking the book? I'm really passionate about it, and despite the irregular updates, I try my best to do a good job at it, and your engagement as readers really does help me put out quick updates because it serves as motivation, so please don't be afraid to leave comments, I really appreciate them!

Anywayy, I hope you all liked this chapter :> It's quite short but I decided to make it a fun, amusing chapter as a break from the seriousness that's happened... and the seriousness that's about to come. Have a great day, and thanks for reading!
