( NEW SCHOOL )
↳ chapter two — ScarlettSCARLETT woke up the next day to her alarm blaring in their ear. They grabbed their phone and stopped it, turning down the brightness. She took a look at the time and date only to groan.
It was half past six on a Monday morning, meaning thay had their very first day at Stoneybrook Middle School. Perfect.
Scarlett threw her blanket aside and groggily sat up, rubbing their eyes. They got out of bed and walked over to their closet. She opened it and realised she had no idea what she was going to wear.
Usually, for them, this wouldn't be a problem. No one at her old school really cared. But this wasn't her old school. This was Stoneybrook Middle School.
They had to look good, considering the fact they would be standing up in front of her whole class to introduce herself. Probably also stating a few facts about themself.
After rummaging around her closet and drawers for ten minute, Scarlett finally had something decent she could wear.
A white button down shirt with a brown knit sweater, some black translucent tights, a black pleated skirt, leg warmers, and finally her docs.
She packed her bag before trudging downstairs reluctantly, knowing the sooner they were ready, the sooner they left for school. They knew they couldn't avoid school forever, but just the Monday would be nice.
Stacey raced down the stairs past Scarlett, and she caught a glimpse of the huge smile that filled their sister's expression. Someone was excited.
"Why do you look so excited for the hell that awaits us," they said, opening the fridge door and reaching for the orange juice.
Stacey grabbed it just before she did. "Why aren't you?" she said, pouring herself a glass. The girl passed the juice to Scarlett before drinking.
"Because it's basically a juvenile center. We're forced to stay in one place with a bunch of other stinky kids where we have to do random activities, eat disgusting food and have random grownups that hate their life watch over us," Scarlett explained.
Their sister scoffed and shook her head, going upstairs to get her stuff ready for school.
"Well it is!" they called out after her. She quickly finished her orange juice and grabbed an apple before plopping down on the couch.
They removed their book from their bag, beginning to read as she waited for the rest of her family.
About ten minutes later, everyone was ready to go. Scarlett and Stacey, along with their mom hopped in the car. Their dad was staying home to clean the kitchen and the bathroom. And Riley had left for school earlier to catch the bus to Stoneybrook High.
As they pulled up to the school, the butterflies in Scarlett's stomach grew to elephants. Her palms became as sweaty as ever, and she contemplated running back home as soon as she got out of the car.
Obviously, she couldn't do that. Her mom hoped out with the two girls, and together the three of them walked to the principal's office.
