[Jack's 3rd person POV for once]

Finally, after a long week at his school, Graysmark School for Bright Young Men, Jack returned home to a big double-hug from Morrigan and Jupiter. Both seemed ecstatic that he was home, though he couldn't blame them.

School was hard for him, and to make matters even worse, he had inherited his uncle's knack of being a Witness, he could see where fights had taken place, where kids had the best or worst day of their lives, so on, so forth. His only reprieve from such whirlwinds of color, was an eyepatch he was gifted when he was 5.

He had given one of his best friends, Morrigan, a few (as in 10, but now it's down to 9) sheets of this special paper his friend, Tommy had given him. It was called Black Mail.

The paper was a dark, ashen grey and it had some mysterious properties. For example, for Morrigan to use it, she needed to write on it, say his full name -John Arjuana Korrapati- then burn it, the paper would return to him when burned.

Morrigan had only needed to use it once, and that was for the first time she encountered the Ghastly Market, but he decided it was best not to dwell on such things. Right now, all he was worried about was what had happened while he was away.

After a long, hearty chat, they all decided it was time for bed, as the Smoking Parlor was starting to pump out lavender smoke "to aid the sleepless". He made his way to bed, and laid down on the now pirate ship shaped bed, the hotel must've found it funny. But quite frankly, Jack wasn't a fan. not one bit.

ugh, just study more, maybe then you'll be able to pass this class

Jack woke up, he had another nightmare. These were common, so he just tried to fall asleep again. But then a 10" x 10" piece of ashen grey paper appeared on his nightstand, it materialized slowly, as if coming onto his nightstand in reverse of being burned, being reconstructed the way it was destroyed.

the paper had just a few sentences on it, but it sent chills down the teen's spine, the sentences were:

Jack, I was wandering again, I know it was a stupid thing to do, but I wanted some fresh air. Anyways, I found the Magnificub and Paximus luck, but they aren't breathing, tell Jupiter that I found them, I'm near the Tricksy lane next to Cascade towers. but be warned, I heard a few wolves

Jack immediately got up out of his bed and rushed to his uncles room, he needed to get to Morrigan. Now. Jack knocked on Jupiter's door before letting himself in. "Uncle Jove, wake up, something happened!" Jack said in a hushed, panicky voice.

"nhmm, Jack, what happened?" his uncle wearlily replied. "It's about Morrigan, she found paximus luck and Dr. Bramble's Magnificub, but, they aren't breathing." Jupiter shot straight up, and stated pulling his coat on, he and Jack quickly got ready, brollies and all.

They just headed out the door and to the brolly rail, when they both saw a face they both rather hated. Baz. Charlton. He wore a light brown trench coat and fancy brown platforms. He looked as if he was about to leave the station. There was also a little splash of, something red on his coat.

"looks like we have a pair of night owls, don't we, North? eh? Camomile, whatever her name is, sleepwalks all the time an-" Baz started to say but was cut off by a sharp glare from Jupiter, and they got on the rail platform without a word.

As soon as the brolly rail system came up, they jumped. Successfully making onto the hooks, now, they just had to get off the rail and not break their legs. Jack heard Jupiter shouting so he could hear. He was asking where they were to get off, and Jack replied loud enough so he could hear, "She said it was near that tricksy lane next to Cascade Towers."

They both saw the station to get off, and they jumped again, making it onto the platform. They both took off sprinting, they needed to find Morrigan, and fast. As they ran, they saw a glow of, something in the alleyway, as they turned the corner, there was, Morrigan.

And the....... bodies, of Paximus luck and Dr. Bramble's Magnificub. They looked horrible, as if someone had torn them from the inside out. "MOG! Mog, are you ok, what happened!?" Jupiter asked frantically. "Jupiter, don't worry, I'm fine, but the Magnificub and Paximus aren't. I saw a guy in a light brown trench coat and fancy platform shoes running away from here, by the looks of it, he was heading the way you guys just to came from, to the brolly rail." Morrigan explained breathlessly.

Jack and Jupiter froze. They knew who had killed Paximus and Dr. Bramble's Magnificub.

Baz Charlton.

Jack went uttery silent. He knew that Baz was low, but this? This, was absolutely horrible. "Uncle jove, wh- how are we going to tell the society?" Jack asked "If I'm being honest, Jack, I have no clue. I guess we'll have to try and uhm, carry these two back to the proudfoot house." Jupiter replied, hesitating on the word "carry".

They had just made it past the long driveway lined with the now alive Fireblossom trees, when the elders came out to see what all the ruckus was about.

Then they saw the Magnificub and poor paximus.

"How did this happen!? I demand an answer!" Elder Quinn whisper yelled, to be fair, it was about 11:00 pm. "Elder Quinn, none of us did it, I swear, if anything, a man was running from the scene back to the brolly rail as soon as I got there, Jupiter told me that him and Jack had seen him and said it was Baz Charlton." Morrigan explained frantically, apparently, she wanted none of the conversation.

"Mr. Charlton? you mean the Mr. Charlton who is the patron of the charlton five, plus Cadence Blackburn?" Elder Saga asked, his bull-like nostrils flaring. "yes." the trio responded in unison.

Morrigan watched from behind the gates to the Proudfoot house as the odious Baz Charlton was put in handcuffs and rolled away in a police car. The Stink and the Stealth were talking with Jupiter, asking how he had known. He just responded with "It was my nephew, Jack, he was the first to hear from Morrigan, and then he told me, we went to the station where she said she was, and once we were there, we saw him with something red on his coat, then when we got there, she was sat there, next to them, waiting for us." "Thank you for your time, Captain North, we will look further into this, and you, your nephew, and your scholar may be on your ways, have a good day." the Stealth officer explained. " You too ma'am, good day, now come along you two, we have to get back to the deucalion before Martha sends out a search party" he responded.
