(Mallory's point of view)

"Mallory, you mean the world to me, to all of us. Digging up the past is not going to find answers to the future." Julie states.

"Julie, this is our job. We have two murders in the States that possibly connect Wilachia to it. We came here to solve this case and maybe even assist in finding long awaited answers that your citizens have been longing to hear." Braxton chimes in.

"What answers?" She asks.

"Like whom killed my mother and father."

Julie shakes her head and says, "I always knew you would take it the hardest. I knew you would grasp at anything to reason the death of your parents. It's okay, it's a part of the grief process." She reaches out to take my hand within hers. I quickly pull my hand back from hers.

"You can't just reason this away."

"Yes, I can. Freak accidents happen all the time. Saige and Abel happened to be at the wrong place, at the wrong time."

"I can't believe this. You sit here and say you were my mother's friend, but you accept whatever you get told. You claim to have known her well, but yet you do the exact opposite of what she would have done, or how she would have reacted."

Julie slams her hand down on the table. "Listen! little girl! She may have been your mother, but she was my friend first and foremost. Had I not convinced her to join me on my getaway trip, she would still be living, and you would not be sitting here criticizing me."

Julie quickly places a hand over her mouth after saying that. She knew she had messed up terribly. I felt every inch of my skin heating up as she spoke. Everything becomes irrelevant around me and suddenly, she becomes the main thing I focus on. My hands begin to shake uncontrollably, my ears ring. I feel a hand reach out to touch my shoulder.

I knew it was Braxton. Even though he was beside me, he seemed so far away. I can hear his voice, but it seems so muffled to me, "Mallory?"

I stare Julie down as if looks could kill. I am met with a regretful stare on her end. "Listen, I didn't mean anything by that. You have every right to be angry with me. I just don't want you getting hurt trying to dig up the past."

"You may have known her before her life changed, but you didn't know everything about her. Whether it be her reading me a bedtime story, or canceling meetings with leaders from all over the world just to play with me in my room all day. She would do anything for her family, even if it meant putting her life on the line. If you truly know her, then do this for her."

Julie looks away as tears streak her cheeks. She wipes them away, nodding her head. She meets my eyes slowly. Age had been kind to her for the most part, but there was a certain kind of fatigue in her eyes that would never go away, "Okay, I'm ready."
