I would say I'm sorry
If I thought that it would change your mind
But I know that this time
I have said too much
Been too unkind

Sighing heavily, a blonde boy with intense blue eyes glared out of the classroom window. Lunch had just begun, but of course he didn't leave class at the same time as everyone else. No, because today his girlfriend had sent him a brief text saying something along the lines of "If I come to the usual meeting spot and you're not there I'll kick your ass". Of course, the aforementioned spot happened to be his desk.

This boy's name was Basil, and if it wasn't already apparent, life wasn't particularly the most fun thing for him. It may come as a surprise, however, to learn that his pink-haired supposed-girlfriend Aubrey was not the cause of his problems. Despite her delinquency, she was actually one of the few people keeping him grounded, though most likely not for the reason you'd think.

"Oh, you listened," a rough voice called from the doorway as Basil's attention was turned to Aubrey's arrival.

"Hey," Basil grunted lowly in reply. "Is there a problem or something?"

Aubrey took a chair from the desk in front of Basil's, turning it to sit opposite him.
"What if I just wanted to spend time with my boyfriend, did you ever consider that?" She asked sarcastically, raising a brow, to which Basil sighed.
"I'm joking, of course."

"So what's the actual issue?" Basil asked again. While at times he could be poetic and flourish in the art of flowery language and expression, when it came to Aubrey he would rather cut to the chase than play games and dance around the matter at hand. Aubrey was mostly direct and would say what she meant, but still had her moments.

"I'm glad you asked, as it's somewhat related to our relationship." She put an emphasis on the word relationship.

"What, did something happen? Did that glasses girl finally notice you?"

Aubrey immediately started to blush. "No, jackass! God, you're annoying. But..."

Basil raised a brow. Gosh, he was exhausted today - getting home was going to be a drag.

"But?" He prompted, watching unamused as Aubrey played with a lock of her pink hair. Basil mentally noted that her dark roots were growing out.

"I think we should stop pretending to be a couple."

Yes. If you hadn't gathered already, the two were in a 'relationship' to the public eye, despite only being friends, or coworkers in the job of covering for eachother.

Aubrey's parents, who seemed to constantly be moments away from a divorce, were severely strict, and Faraway Town was a highly religious location. Heck, Aubrey got in huge trouble for simply dyeing her hair pink, though her parents had reached a stage of not acknowledging her by this point, so she continued to do it.

"Oh? Are you going to make a move?"

Aubrey's eyes narrowed. "I don't know yet. But I've been partnered with Mincy in science. Since she's not originally from Faraway, maybe wherever she comes from is more open to this kind of thing? Anyway, if I'm getting a chance to know her, I don't want to seem like I'm unavailable in case she does like girls or something and-"

"Okay, I get it, it's fine," Basil interrupted. He wasn't too interested in hearing about Aubrey's experience being the lesbian disaster she was. "I literally do not care. Just take your shot and let me know if you need me to come over to pretend you're straight or something."

Aubrey's usually annoyed expression softened, before she gave him a determined smile. "Thanks, Basil. I hope you don't miss me too much!" She joked.

Basil rolled his eyes. "Oh, please. You're forgetting that I'm uninterested in girls."
