She was back where she started when she entered the car, a pitch-black room. Mabel looked to her left and right, trying to find any trace of a door but it was hard to tell where she was while looking in a room that felt like she had her eyes closed. It seemed like all hope was lost until a voice echoed through the room.

"MABEL!" the familiar voice called out.

The said person turned her attention to the voice, seeing a pink figure running toward her. It came so fast it jumped onto her, knocking both of them down.

"Huh? Waddles?" Mabel asked the figure that landed on her chest.

He nodded. "Yeah, it's me!" he exclaimed eagerly, "I'm so happy to see you!"

Mabel hugged him. "You are? What happened?"

"Well, after you went into the car, I went after you but then- wait, what's that?" his story was cut short after noticing something behind Mabel.

"What's what?" Mabel asked.

Waddles gestured to look behind her and she turned around, a door revealed to her. "Huh. I wonder why I didn't see that before," Mabel shrugged, "Is that the way out of the car?"

Waddles tilted his head at the door, "No, Mabel, I think that's your exit," he thought for a moment and looked at Mabel, "What does your number say?"

Mabel looked down at her glowing hand and her eyes widened. "It..." she looked back up at Waddles, "It says zero."

Waddles gasped and grinned. "Mabel, you got your exit! That's great!" he exclaimed, "Now you can go home and stop that thing you were talking about!"

Mabel stared at her exit for a second and then turned around to look at Waddles. "I'm sure Gravity Falls can wait just a little longer without me; I want to hear the rest of your story."

Waddles blinked. "But what about your summer, and your brother, and your friends, and saving the world?"

Mabel smiled softly at him. "I don't know if I'll ever see you again. So I want to make our last moments count."

Waddles was shocked to hear her say that. But, then again, he knew Mabel had learned a lot on the journey here and he was glad she had changed for the better.

"Okay, so, where was I?" Waddles thought to himself to continue his story, "Oh yeah! So I entered the car and it was super dark, like it is now, until about a minute later I was suddenly back at my home. And to my surprise, my family was there."

"Your family?"

Waddles nodded. "Yeah. And it was like having déjà vu because I swear I had lived that moment before. It was when we had dinner together for my thirteenth birthday, except..."

"Except what?" Mabel asked curiously.

Waddles took a deep breath and went on, "This time I confessed to my family what I couldn't tell them in real life. I... I told them who I really wanted to be and wished that they would accept me for it."

Mabel slowly nodded. "Okay... and then what happened?"

"They... they said it was okay. And that they would accept and still love me."

"Really? That's great!"

Waddles chuckled nervously, "Yeah, it was for a while. But then I thought about you and how I needed to find you. And... deep down I knew what I was experiencing couldn't be real. Because I know my family would never accept me for who I am."

Mabel frowned. "Why do you think that?"

"A shapeshifter can be whatever they want, is what everyone says," he sighed, "What's actually true is that a shapeshifter can only change how they look, not what they are."
