It was time to leave for Christmas break. Simon and Wille had been avoiding eachother, only speaking to eachother after church just before leaving. Wille had confessed his love for Simon and the other had wished him a nice Christmas. Wille was heartbroken, the hug he and Simon shared only reopened the wound in his heart and made him miss Simme even more, who was no longer his Simme.
The first days were hard, Wille had no one he could call a friend except for Prins. He spent most of his time in Erik's room, wearing his brother's jacket, Prins pressed close to his chest. Breathing Erik's scent made him feel safe and reminded him of all his favourite moments with his brother. Wille had a hard time eating, he locked himself in his room and lied to the people that asked if he'd eaten already. He refused to talk to his mother and father or to anyone else.
August regularily checked in on him over text, but Wille didn't want to worry him so he just told him that he was fine. One day August texted him, saying that he would spend the rest of the winter break with him, as Christmas was over and he didn't want to be alone with his parents anymore.
Wille didn't know how to feel about August visiting. He liked the boy and trusted him, but he knew that August would be worried about him once he saw him. He didn't like being a burden.
The day that August was supposed to arrive, Wille made an effort to get out of bed on time to take a shower and get dressed properly, as he'd spent the last few days wearing the same hoodie and joggers. Once he was ready, he started getting excited for August to arrive, only now realising how lonely he'd felt until now.
He waited impatiently for the big front door of the palace to open, feeling small sitting on the large stairs in the middle of the room. He fidgeted, once again picking at the skin of his fingers and biting his thumbnail.
Finally, he got a text saying that August arrived at the front gate. Wille got up way too quickly and darted outside. Outside, he saw a black car pulling into the driveway. Wille stopped, keeping his composure as there were some people there to welcome August. He hated the welcoming procedures, they were never honest, only there to keep the royal family's perfect image. He straightened his jacket and smiled politely, doing his best to keep his excitement down. When August finally got out of the car, they hugged politely, keeping the real greeting for later behind closed doors. They had a welcoming dinner scheduled in the evening and it was only 11, so they had plenty of time to spend with eachother until then. As soon as August's luggage had been carried to his guest room and they were alone, Wille hugged August tightly. The tall boy chuckled at the younger boy's show of affection and pulled him closer, ruffling his hair, which Wille protested at. "Someone missed me, huh?", he joked, Wille groaning in return. "It's so boring here! I'm all alone and no one actually talks to me, they all just say 'yes Crown Prince', it's so annoying!"
August sighed, remembering how Erik had always felt the same, even if he was better at hiding it, having been prepared for his role his entire life. "I'm sorry, I know it's hard, Erik never liked it either, but at least he had time to grow into his role." Wille whined, hearing Erik's name always hurt and he only wanted to be distracted from his hurt right now. "I knoooow", he groaned. "You better cheer up now, what do you wanna do?", August held Wille by his shoulders, so that he could look him in the face. Wille looked down, not knowing what to do, now that he actually had someone to spend time with. Overwhelmed at the question, he looked up to August, who understood. "Do you want to go to your room? We could play some video games?", he suggested. Wille thought about it and nodded, the idea sounding pretty fun, he didn't have the energy to play videogames lately. "Alright, I'm just going to get something from my suitcase first and then I'll be right with you, okay? ", August patted Wille's back reassuringly. "Can I come with you? Don't wanna be alone.", Wille mumbled shyly.
"Of course buddy!", August went to leave the room, looking back to see if Wille was following him. He stopped as he saw that the boy was still standing there. The boy was blushing, the nickname had him plummeting into little space. He hadn't regressed in two weeks and his anxiety was stronger than ever. He hadn't wanted to regress on his own, as he felt lonelier when he was this vulnerable.
August had stepped back towards Wille again, seeing the boy's hesitation. "Is something wrong?", he asked, bending down slightly to look Wille in the eyes. Wille just shook his head, afraid that August would rather spend time with adult Wille and that he'd be annoyed that Wille was small now. A small tear rolled down Wille's cheek, August fully crouching down in front of him now, wiping the tear away with his thumb. "Hey did I do something wrong?", his voice quiet and concerned. Wille viciously shook his head no, August didn't do anything wrong, if anything he always made him feel right, like he would be alright everytime he was little. And still Wille had doubts, he didn't want to bother August. "Then why are you crying prince?", the boy's voice was genuine and full of worry, seeing how the younger boy was in conflict with himself. The nickname finally made Wille let go, "Auggie", he whispered, hugging the tall boy again.
August chuckled, being happy that he could get the boy to regress. He saw how tense Wille was before and he really longed to see him carefree again. He would never want to admit it to adult Wille, but he really really liked taking care of him. The small boy made him feel needed and loved in a way so innocent and pure that no one else in his life could.
"Hi my prince, what were you upset about?, he smiled at the boy, who blushed again. Wille looked down, "Don't wanna bother, you here for big Wille.", he mumbled, embarrassed for regressing. August looked at him in shock, heart breaking of the thought of small Wille thinking that he would rather spend time with his adult self. "Shhh don't say that buddy, Uncle Auggie loves you just as much as big Wille and he is very excited to see you again!", he winked at the small boy, who looked up at him in awe. "I actually have a surprise for you little guy, I just wanted to get it for you! You wanna join me?", he held out his hand for Wille to take. Wille beamed, motioning to be picked up. "You want me to carry you, huh?", the tall boy chuckled and picked him up. "You wanna go on my back?", he put the boy down for a second, who clapped excitedly. He helped the boy hop on his back and they made their way to August's guest room. Wille held on tight, giggling gleefully. He took one of the sportsbags next to his suitcase and Wille whined in anticipation, only earning a chuckle from August. "You can open it in a minute when we're in your room, but until then you need to be patient." Wille whined again, but he understood.
Once they got to the boy's room August dropped Wille on his bed, the boy giggling. Wille immediately crawled over to where Prins was sitting on the bed, pulling the frog close to kiss his face.
August sat on the bed, legs crossed, bag next to him. "Now would you like to open your gifts little prince?"
