Secretariats Sire was Bold RulerBold Ruler was One of the greatest Sires that ever lived and he was considered a champion sire.
Secretariat was nicknamed "Big Red" He had a gentle personality. He was very smart and if you told him what to do while riding him, he'd do it. He had 3 white socks was a red chestnut and had a stripe down his nose.Secretariats first race was at the Aqueduct race track in 1972 and he ended up getting fourth place. Eventually, Sham and Secretariat had one of the greatest Rivalry's of all time in racing history. Sham's Damn was Hasty Matilda, and his Sire was Bold Ruler. Secretariat lost the Wood memorial the Whitney Stakes, and the Woodward stakes. Sham beat him in one race at the Wood memorial getting 2nd while Secretariat got 3rd.
Secretariats first win was the Six furlong Sanford Stakes, in New York on August 16th. Secretariat knifed his way between horses and finished first down the stretch. Eventually he went to win the Kentucky Derby, winning by 2 1/2 lengths while Sham got 2nd place. He won the Preakness stakes just beating Sham by 3 lengths. His final race at the Belmont Stakes is considered to be one of the most amazing wins in horse racing history, Secretariat had won the triple crown. He beat Sham in the Belmont stakes by a staggering 31 lengths, and his margin of victory has never been approached. He had broken records, and considered to be one of the greatest race horse that ever lived. His final race was the Canadian International Championship Stakes. He won it by 6 1/2 lengths, ending his incredible career with another victory.
He unfortunately passed in 1989, do to issues with Laminitis.Before he passed he ended up siring 600 foals, on average the foals sold for over 1 million dollars, And most of them all ended up being famous winners.
