Chapter 005

Tim's POV:

We were all standing there when the lights on the van started flickering like crazy and then the van started.

"What just happened?" I said walking over to Billy. "I thought the wires were cut or whatever?"

"They were but then they just fixed themselves." He said, staring at the wires. What does he mean by that? This reminds me of the time we found a bone crushed, guts spilled everywhere, mutilated, squirrel in our front yard. Ell got out of the car and her nose was bleeding, which caused Barbara to go check on her. Am I missing something? No, I'm not dumb. I would be the one with powers in this family, not Ell. Maybe I accidentally fixed the car?

"HEY FREEZE!" It was military police. We all quickly jumped in the car, with Billy driving.

"Guys I don't think we should try to run from the Govern-" "JUST DRIVE!" We all cut Billy off mid-sentence. We weren't about to get arrested, we had to rebel.

Enola's POV:

I'm hoping no one figures out I fixed the van, it doesn't make sense to me why I can do that and no one else can. Sometimes I wonder if I'm adopted because I don't even look like my family. Although Papa has always been overly-protective of me and I don't know if it's normal or not. I don't have anyone to talk to about it, not like I want to talk.

After we kindly yelled at Billy to drive, we were now in the woods on the main road headed to town. Although I had a feeling that wasn't the best idea, I didn't say anything because I was trying to find an alternative place for us to go.

"Who's Sam Owens? Why do we have the same name?" Sam asked this as he held up a file. He opened the box that said "Close Associates". I quickly grabbed the file and scanned over it. I knew it! Our names were a hint at something!

His address was scribbled out, but I saw something that might be of use. '37.2431° N, 115.7930° W' I grabbed a map and started trying to pinpoint the location. Of course, it was in the middle of the Nevada Desert, why wouldn't it be? Why would it be a simple place to find?

"BILLY HEAD TO NEVADA!" That caused everyone to look at you.

"WHY NEVADA?!?!?" Jeez, did he have to ask so many questions?

"JUST DO IT, I'LL EXPLAIN ON THE WAY" After that was said, Billy reluctantly started driving to Nevada. The rest of the group was talking to each other. It would take about 11-12 hours to get there. This is gonna suck for our parents, we're leaving without notice. No note, no heads up, nothing. Although I'll think they'll figure it out when they see that we've found out part of what Papa was hiding. That or they'll think the government took it. I wonder what'll go through their head when they find out we all left. Will they look for us? Will they send someone after us? I suppose I shouldn't worry about it too much, after all, I needed to look through stuff.

I decided to look through the bag first. When I opened it, I saw the VHS tape, some sketches, a formal outfit, a key card for something, and a packet of blood. I didn't tell anyone though, I didn't want to risk them breaking or messing with everything. I was sitting in the corner of the van, right behind Billy, while everyone else was sitting on the other side of the van talking and blocked from eyesight by boxes. I grabbed the keycard and looked at it.

"HNL. Hawkin's National Laboratory. Department of Energy. Orderly - Peter Ballard. Restricted Access."

It had a photo of what I assume was 'Peter Ballard', a blonde-haired guy in a uniform. I wonder what the keycard unlocks. Two things have come from this keycard, answers and more questions. At least I now know why the car says what it says & I know what 'HNL' stands for.
