As Kai unfolded the blanket, spreading it over the hill, Buck placed down the grocery bags. Kai and buck sat down next to each other, and Buck let out a nervous sigh. "Hey, Kai, can I tell you something?" Kai looked over at buck nervously, and murmured a simple "Sure..." and Buck began to speak.

"When we were back in high school, I had realized I had an attraction to men. My dad was very against gays, always using the F slur, and calling HIV "The Gay Virus" due to that HIV scare back in the 80's or something.

I had always tried to make my dad happy no matter the cost. So I bottled up my attraction to men, knowing he would evict me from his house if I came out to him.

Everyone at Aries High, was really progressive, and my friends accepted me for me being my authentic self. And one day, I saw Dolion arguing with you in the hall. Your relationship seemed so toxic, yet you were blinded by first love. I wanted to help, but I was scared to reach out to you."

Kai looked back at Buck with udder shock, he had never seen this side of Buck before. Instead of his jolly and soft nature, he seemed to be hurting deep inside. "W-Wow, I..." Kai had no idea what to say, but the thing that puzzled Kai the most was how Buck seemed to effortlessly burry these struggles and trauma. "I... I never knew..." Kai muttered, "I never would have assumed that about you." "How did you stop the pain?" Buck looked back at Kai, gently grasping his paw, he sympathetically said "I never did..." Buck continued "I may or may never heal from this psychological turmoil from the past, but at least I have you by my side, babe." "You are the reason I get out of bed, the reason I have a will to keep going." Kai grew teary eyed, he had never felt such genuine love and affection, other than the illusion that was the relationship with Dolion. Kai scooted closer to buck, their sides touching shoulder to shoulder. Buck wrapped his arm around Kai's back, and pulled Kai close, his head leaning onto Buck's shoulder. As the two of them sat in silence they gazed out into the horizon, the lavender mountains lit in along the edges. Just then the hot air balloons began to lift off the field, the envelope of the balloons puffing up larger and larger. And one by one they slowly lifted upward off the ground. And out of a pure romantic impulse, Kai pulled Buck close to him and gave him a hug. Buck was flustered and surprised, but went along with the act, rubbing the Kai's back as Kai rested his head upon Buck's shoulder. This truly felt like genuine love, to have someone care for you, about you even. Made Kai feel at ease, his eyes began to tear up as Kai let out a soft sob as he hugged Buck tighter and closer. Dipping his muzzle beneath Buck's ear, Kai softly spoke to Buck. "You are my everything...". Kai and buck didn't seem to care that others were in the area, to them, they were together alone. And as the show concluded, and late afternoon turned to dusk, the sun slowly crept behind the mountains to reveal a night sky filled to the brim with glowing stars and nebulas in the sky above. "Welp, I had a lot of fun today. Ready to head home, babe?" Kai looked up at Buck and gave a soft nod. Kai felt a paw grab beneath his leg, and Buck lifted Kai off the blanket, cradling Kai in his arms. Buck wasn't all to muscular, but did his best to make it back to the car, placing kai gently into his seat. As Kai watched buck gather the food they had been eating, Kai gazed to the sky, taking in the splendor of the night. And as Buck shut the trunk of the car, the blanket neatly folded in the backseat, he started up the car and began to drive. Kai looked at the radio, and politely asked Buck: "Care for some music?" Buck looked over and playfully said, "Dude, you don't need to ask!" And with that Kai cycled throughout the stations, but one caught his attention. A spiffy voice announced: "This song goes out to the happy couples, gay, straight, or bi. The station then cut to a 1920's ballroom song, the music surged throughout his body, as if serenading him and Buck. "Thanks for inviting me to this, Buck" Kai thanked, "Thanks, babe." Buck bashfully responded, his eyes still gazing on the open road ahead, no day in Kai's life could ever compare to this, Kai thought. And then Kai slowly reclined back his chair, and began to doze off, the vibrations of the car pulling him into slumber.
