Homecoming- Maya's POV

"Thank you, everyone for meeting after school with SGA to help plan the upcoming homecoming event." Mrs. Anderson says in her classroom to everyone on the event planning committee in SGA.

Nobody participates in any academic organizations especially in my friend group.

The students here only care about four extracurricular activities at this school: Football, Basketball, Cheerleading, and Dance Team. Band is a plus but rarely is anyone actually excited about being in the band, but they perform really well.

"So as always, I'm just the advisor so I'll let the president of 12th grade take over because 12th graders are always in charge of our homecoming. 11th graders, you guys are in charge of prom so please take great notes." She adds while taking a seat in the nearby desk.

Mrs. Anderson always dresses like a typical teacher. A sweater with a really long skirt sometimes she will wear a dress, but it's rare that we see her wear jeans.

I get up from my seat and approach the podium and open up my laminated folder with "Project: Homecoming" on the front.

"Ahem-well, so far as a class these are our ideas."

Technically my ideas.

"As far as a theme, we have none. When it comes to area, I've already asked for permission of the gym. The cafeteria last year was interesting, but we expect more people to sign up to be a part of Homecoming this year of course because of this exciting announcement-" I ramble.

"Get on with it," Mrs. Anderson buds in.

"So, we as a class propose that for this year's prom we should have an actual DJ and not just songs put on a disc played over loud speakers"

"Where's the money going to come from to do this?"

"We could fundraise for it or find some sponsors that help us pay for it," I say nodding and trying to convince Mrs. Anderson of the idea.

"Hmm...I'll think about it." She says motioning me to sit back down.

"Seriously though, you guys need to hurry up and discuss a theme for homecoming so that we can begin to order materials. The longer you wait the less time we have to get every thing,"

There's five other people in this room that never has to present anything nor do they do event planning. They are just here to put this on their resume, yet I take all the blame from Mrs. Anderson when things doesn't g o according to plan.

After Mrs. Anderson finishes telling us about some of the reminders and events that's coming up which takes a while, I check my phone and call my mom letting her know that I'm ready to be picked up.

I know what your thinking.

"How are you 17 years old, but don't drive yourself to school?"

I have my license, but my dad is still out searching for me a car. Rumor is he wants to go all out on it, but my mom won't let him. So until they settle that issue, getting picked up by my mom will do it.

Before I head out I get a reminder from my phone, "Ask Coach C if you can use the gym for prom."

Fuck.

How could I forget to ask?

Yes I lied about already getting permission but who wouldn't. Lies are what people like to hear sometimes.

I make my way to the gym quickly before my mom gets here. If I take too long, she will leave me here at this school. Trust me, she's done it before.

In the gym I see the team practicing. I guess they were doing drills while a couple of guys were just resting and talking.
