Truth or Drink- Izaak POV
"Do you have feelings for Maya?"
I think about this question carefully. It's actually not that hard.
I don't catch feelings for females. I've only had about two girlfriends in my entire life. Basketball players and girlfriends just never mix.
Think about it. We practice after school till about 5 sometimes we don't get out till 7. Then there's a game every Friday and an afterparty after almost every home game. Tons of girls are at those parties.
Do you know how many times shit gets started cause a girl sets you up? There's no point in having a girlfriend when you're a basketball player for that very reason.
Shit just gets too messy.
But I obviously can't say all of that in front of Maya. She's so cute, smart, and nice. I don't want to break her heart either, but I also don't want to lie.
Does that mean I have feelings for her?
I look at her before I sip.
"Oh c'mon, you could've answered that question!" Destiny says
"I just wanted to drink first"I lied while sitting my cup back down. "I think there's something I feel for Maya right now." I admit and don't look at her because she is probably flustered right now.
I would consider dating Maya if I wasn't a basketball player. Plus, I probably won't even be here that long to be in a relationship.
Trey knows he's wrong for that question. Every dude on the team knows we don't date. I don't even know why Trey has a girlfriend. She's sweet, but once we go to college it won't last. Especially if he gets recruited to an out of state team.
I notice her friends start smiling once I answer the question. So far, what i'm getting from this interaction is that Maya has a crush on me.
She's so innocent, but she's adorable.
My phone buzzes so I go to check it.
I said to come straight home.
Where are you at?
Come home now.
I roll my eyes. "Aye, it was fun hanging out with y'all but I gotta go. My mom trippin." I say and get up and grab my backpack off the couch.
"No problem, you know my door is always open if you wanna come back," Trey says leaning against the bottom of the couch with his arm resting on the seat sipping a drink with his left.
I finish drinking the rest of the drink in my cup and put the cup in the sink.
"Are you going to be on the game later?" Trey asks.
"Yes, as soon as my mom finish telling me whatever she tryna talk about I'll hop on" I add while walking to the front door.
"Ight, bet. We gotta talk."
"Aight, See you later Maya," I say on my way out. I look back just to see her face one more time before I leave.
I see her smile and say " Bye Izaak"
I head out and hop into my car.
This better not be about no bull shit. I cannot stand my mom sometimes. She exaggerates things too much.
I get to the house and park in the driveway. I hop out and lock the car while putting my car keys and phone in my sweatpants pockets.
I come into the living room with my mom sitting on the couch like she's been waiting on me.
"Where were you?"
"At Trey's"
"Doing what?"
"Chilling Ma"
"Yeah right, more like smoking and drinking. I have told you about that stuff. This is why I moved us back here to my home. Now sit down we have something to talk about." She speaks without letting me get a word in.
"I want to stand." I say looking off at the wall.
Whatever she about to say is not about to be this deep that I have to sit my ass on that couch. She just exaggerates shit.
"I said to sit." She says very seriously.
Let me sit down to make her feel like she just did some shit right then. I sit my book bag down on the door next to my room and then come sit on the couch a few inches away from her.
"The trial starts in about a week. Since we lived in Pasadena, the trial will be in Pasadena and I might not be here as often."
"Thank God" I say in my head. I can do whatever I want while she's gone.
"Don't get all excited. Right now I am trying to figure out who you can stay with while I am back and forth. Your Grandma-"
" No- I am not staying with grandma. She complains and always wants me to do her housework." I say shaking my head profusely.
Last time I went to my grandma house she made me do so much housework. I was sweating worse than from basketball practice. I'm not going through that again.
"Well, it's either stay with your grandma or maybe your friend Trey for a night or two. I just wanted to make sure that you know that no matter what the outcome is I love you and you will always be my son whom I want to take care of, and-"
*Knock,Knock, Knock*
The front door makes a sound because someone is here. Thanks goodness it broke that soap box up. My mom goes to answer the door and turns out it was one of my uncles.Uncle Sean needed my mom to help him and wife with something real quick. My mom agreed to help and let me know that I was dismissed from whatever we were talking about.
I buzz Trey to get on the game with me real quick. I hop on the game and see Trey already has a green light.
I decide to give him a call.
"Yooo wasssup Izaak"
"Wassup Trey mannn, aye you know you wrong for that question about Maya." I say starting the game for us and picking out my team.
"Shii my bad. I wasnt trying to be petty or nothin, But I know my girl would be mad at me if I didnt ask you that girly stuff for Maya."
"Mhmmm, she cool though I can't lie."
"Hell yea, she cool people. The whole group is cool people." Trey adds after selecting his team.
"Aye bro, what was that weird stare you had when Kordell asked you about Destiny?"
He pauses long and hard after my question.
"Izaak, you like a brother to me. So imma tell you what happened..I think Kordell knows bits and pieces of this story but other than that you are the only one that knows this."
"Hey, just tell me what's on your mind. You are like the twin brother I've always wanted Trey. Whatever you tell me stays with me." I say and pause the game.
I hope he isn't about to tell me something that changes my mind about anyone in the friend group. I already do not like Destiny that much.
"Ight, so imma be direct with it. Fuck all that sob story shit. One night earlier this year, one of the teammates threw a party when school ended in May. At the party we all got drunk and high. It was me, Kordell, and Destiny and a bunch of other classmates there. I think Imani had something to do that weekend and so she wasnt able to make it, but mind you her girl Destiny had been flirting with me for a couple of weeks. Next thing you know Destiny was flirting with me and I was flirting back, and well- I , we-"
I brace myself for what I am about to hear next.
"I fucked her best friend Destiny"
