The 5 months time.
1854 p.m.
Both Beomgyu and Eunjoo stumbled out of the restaurant, feeling a little tipsy.
The chilly wind howled, making them instinctively close to each other, seeking warmth.
" Cold night, I think it's going to rain. " She murmured while waiting for Beomgyu to start the car.
" Where are we headed after this? Or- " She blinked. " Do you want to jump now? "
" You want to do it now? " Her breath hitched, nervously she looked over at the man next to him.
" No, not really. " He kept his gaze down. " The feeling isn't here yet. Plus, this doesn't feel enough. Do you have somewhere you want to go? "
Eunjoo thought hard about the question. In the scheme of the plan, there was no dinner or a drive with a good-looking but ill-inside man as the driver. Her head went straight ahead to the top objective. Die.
" Why won't we follow what you want now? " She suggested. " There must be somewhere you really wanted to go. "
The man zoned out, his fingers stiffened at the steering wheel.
BUZZ
BUZZ
" Someone's bugging you? " She didn't expect him to respond to her question but when he nodded, Eunjoo sighed while tapping her fingers on the dashboard.
" People still love you, dude. "
" I guess so. "
Eunjoo stayed silent while Beomgyu was busy typing on his phone screen. From her peripheral vision, she could see how Beomgyu put barely any effort into replying to person who texted him.
" It's my ex. " He sighed. " She decided to keep an eye on me after we broke up. "
" To make sure you won't do anything stupid? " Eunjoo interfered and Beomgyu had never been so embarrassed. Was it too obvious he is prone to those things?
" Beomgyu, don't be embarrassed. " She held out a hand to pat his shoulder. " My brother told me to kill myself when he disowned me at 15. "
" He's a monster. "
" Totally. " She chuckled wryly. " Most people saw me as the problem and my brother had to run away so I wouldn't ruin him. "
" I think I know where I want to go. "
" Great! " Eunjoo cheered. " Let's make our way! "
When her eyes gazed into his, Beomgyu kind of lost it. The wall he had been bricking up began to break little by little and it made him feel even more vulnerable.
Why would he help her in the first place? What did he actually want?
He took a deep breath and began to drive somewhere else. Where it is a little bit private and welcoming. The beach.
Eunjoo and Beomgyu sat together with the black sea spread vast before them.
" Why did you help me? "
" I wish I knew too. " He played with the sand, grabbing them into his fist and sprinkling them down. " I guess I was just trying to be nice before I die. "
" It was my grandmother's cat. After she died, I have been looking after her for years. "
" She was your only family left huh? " Beomgyu chuckled and Eunjoo nodded.
" Have the others but the cat was the most functional. Now she's gone, I think I'm going crazy. "
"I felt that too, a year ago. " Beomgyu turned his body a little to her, finding a sense of comfort. " She was the woman I sought out the most. Never thought she would give me a hard time now. "
" Tell me about it. "
" I knew her when I started busking around Seoul. We met at this little coffee shop I was performing at and she happened to be one of the customers. " He drew circles in the sand and Eunjoo imitated his action but with stars.
" I remember when the waiter came to me with a drink and a note, saying someone wanted me to have those. It was not the first time I received letters but that one felt different. " He paused, " Maybe because I have grown up, I have a little idea of what is love so I was kind of excited. She left me her number and I contacted her right after I got home. "
" She was good to me, Joo. " Beomgyu looked at her. " But maybe I was the problem. "
" I've told you, a fucking dozen times to reach out to a doctor! " She screamed over the thick wall. " Not sulking in your room for fucking days, rotting! "
" No, we shouldn't do this. My idea was better, you should have known, Beomgyu. "
" Great, now I can't go to the party. Thanks to your moody episodes. "
" I- I have this problem... Sometimes I suddenly shut down. I don't feel like doing anything and I just want to lie down. Crying to absolutely nothing. It gives me satisfaction, a remark for the day and then I will go to sleep for a whole day. And it repeats for a week. "
" She doesn't like that. She called them my stupid depression weeks. " He laughed and Eunjoo slapped his shoulder, hard.
" Why would you laugh? " Her eyebrows frowned in annoyance and Beomgyu found it scary. " It's not something to laugh at and I'm sorry, she's not a good influence. Stupid depression week? Who the fuck is she to say that? "
" Beomgyu she wasn't nice at all. " She glowered. " She's tired of you and I don't care if I sound malicious but that's the fact. "
She's tired of you.
" We've broken up already, relax. " He continued to laugh again. " Don't worry. "
" And she tried to play nice by checking up on you. "
" That's why I said she's nice- "
" She doesn't want to feel guilty if you die, Beomgyu. " She deadpanned. " That is what she is. "
Beomgyu stopped from doing anything he was doing. God, what was Eunjoo trying to do to him? He retracted his hands and put them inside his clothes, the chilly wind felt uninviting. Seeing Eunjoo getting pissed made him feel weak.
Was it okay to feel that way? Because Injoo, she told him that he shouldn't have bothered to cry. He's a man, she said.
" Joo? "
" Hm? " She replied, still angry.
" Are you cold? I wanted to stay here for a while. "
