Never have I been this bored before in my life.

Waiting for the competition to begin has to be one of the most time-wasting things to be ever invented by humans. On my left sat my twin brother Kanae, who just happens to be the one person I dislike the most in this world.

"What are you looking at," he glared at me.

I'm sure he feels the same.

On my right sat my best friend, Lia. She was too engrossed in her conversation/argument with her travel partner to notice that I was examining the situation from the side.

Lia is one of the purest beings in this world, an absolute angel. How did someone like her end up with the worse travel partner ever is beyond me? As much as I hate to admit it, Calem is the most talented Pokemon trainer among us, if only his personality is as good as his battling skills. He got none of his parent's good qualities, only inheriting their looks and talent.

"Dazzling gleam is the best contest move for altaria," Lia pouted, "it's cute, and it also does quite a lot of damage." Calem rolled his eyes in response, "sure, if you want to blind the judge and the audience."

"Pardon the intrusion," Kanae said, pushing up his invisible glasses, "but I believe the best contest move for altaria is draco meteor, since it is just as powerful as it is beautiful." I'm not sure if he can see it, but I rolled my eyes at his claim.

Calem nodded in agreement. "Hmm," Lia started, " but doesn't it make it more easier for the opposite Pokemon to attack after using it?"

"It doesn't matter if the opponent fainted before it attacks," I jumped into the conversation. "Stop bringing Pokemon battle into contests!" she punched my arm gently while I giggled.

Like I said, an angel.

The prodigy seemed displeased, he poked at Lia, bringing her attention back to him. "Why do you need to know those things anyway," he pointed out, "it's not like any of us here uses altaria anyway,"

Silence fell between us.

"W-well," Lia gulped, "the Pokemon egg I got is about to hatch, right?"

She was sweating beads.

Her travel partner looked at her suspiciously, "Really," he raised an eyebrow, "you're hoping it's a swablu?"

"O-of course not!" she laughed nervously, "it's not like you can handle it anyway, I was just curious, hahahahaha..." She trailed off.

I knew what happened. Lia has been taking care of an injured altaria for a while now. She has kept it hidden from Calem because of his fear of bird-like Pokemon.

Lia had told me this a while ago, she said she will eventually talk about it with Calem but it doesn't look like it has happened.

I'm pretty sure he could tell she's keeping something from him, but the reason he hasn't found out yet I wouldn't know.

Just as I was about to cover for her, the announcer stepped onto the platform. "Welcome to the International Snowboarding Competition," his voice booming out of the speaker, "today's event will be Mixed parallel giant slalom! We hope you are ready for the day's worth of exciting competitions!"

So it has finally started.

Of course, I'm not here just to watch, one of the competitors could potentially be the biggest roadblock for me and Calem on our journey to get the 8 badges.

"Up first is Frostine Blanche from the Kalos region!"

There she is, the gym leader of the Snowbelle Gym, Frostine.

Her title was given to her by her Uncle, Wulfric, and she has proven herself to be more than capable to handle the role.

Most trainers' journey ends at her hand.

Greetings, I do not know how you managed to stumble upon my writing, but thank you for being here, I hope you can stick till the end.

As you might have noticed by now, this story is set in my HC universe where majority of the anime cast went on to produce a new generation of young trainers. Because Calem has never made an official anime appearence before (not counting Alain), I decided the story will be centred around him and his friends.

I do not enough courage to write the full story yet, so think of this work as a preview/spinoff of what is to come.

I hope you will enjoy the rest.

Fun fact about this chapter, originally I was going to put slopestyle as the discpline but I noticed that Grusha might've participated in slalom instead (as mentioned by the gym test guy). I didn't get to his gym until after I had posted the original chapter on AO3, so I had to change it before anyone could notice (not like my 20ish something reader notice anyway lol)
