As he was driving, Mrs. Shepherd noticed the number written on his hand. The radio was playing "It's Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas" and his fingers were tapping along, the windshield wipers blowing off the snow.
"Is that her number?" Carolyn asked, smirking at her son.
"What? Oh...yea, you know, just to make sure she gets home safely. Wouldn't want another wreck."
"Hmm," she nodded, listening to the music.
"She agreed to a date with me," he chuckled.
"Derek Christopher Shepherd, do not tell me you would only fix her car if she agreed to a date!" She said, slapping his arm.
"Ow...of course not," he laughed, "She agreed to go and I made sure she knew I wasn't tricking her."
"Good," Mrs. Shepherd smiled. She hoped Derek would settle down one day. After what happened with his ex wife, he had drawn away from his family. She wanted him to be happy again. And Meredith seemed like a nice girl, a little low of some Christmas spirit. But if her son sticks with her, she will be joyful in no time.

Meredith stopped by Molly's house.
"Meredith! Come on, we are just about to decorate Christmas cookies."She was lead into the kitchen where Eli, her nephew, was sat next to Lexie and Michael, her brother-in-law. Lexies boyfriend sat on the other side of her.
"What took you so long?" Lexie asked.
"Oh I just got a few presents for a little guy, do you know who that may be?"
"ME!" Little Eli exclaimed and ran up to her to give her a hug.
"Yes, you," she laughed. "My car wouldn't start again, so this guy jumped it for me," she sighed, a smile working at her lips.
"Oh, who jumped it?" Lexies boyfriend, Mark, asked.
"This guy named Derek, he was Christmas shopping with his mom and was nice enough to lend a hand."
Mark laughed, "Wait, did this 'Derek' guy have black hair and blue eyes?"
"Yea, how did you know?" She asked, sitting down and grabbing a couple of cookies to decorate along with the rest of the group.
"He's my best friend, practically my brother. I never thought he would help someone out after what happened last time," he shrugged, also grabbing one.
"What do you mean?"
"Well he was married a few years back. She cheated on him with this total loser who had the ugliest blond hair I've ever seen. Then, she got pregnant and refused to tell him. So I did."
"Oh...that's a lot," she whispered.
"Yea, anyways, he's a good guy. I'm surprised you found him shopping."
"Oh I didn't, his mom came up to me. Then, he came along. And he jumped my car."
"Please tell me he asked you out," Molly giggled.
"He did," she smiled, "but it's just for fun."
"Sure.." Lexie laughed. They spent the rest of their night decorating the house for Christmas.
