Thinking about the time before death stole their happiness is much less taxing.
Donghyuck likes to think about the time when they were free and unbothered. When the walkers were just a side thought, and it had been a full three months since they’d seen more than a few making their way through the area.
They were the happiest then.
They were also incredibly loud considering the circumstances, running through fields and under tunnels and along train tracks. Donghyuck was constantly shushing them, looking over his shoulder. Their lack of paranoia unsettled him, but also balanced out his own and allowed him to live.
Sitting on the roof of the tallest building Donghyuck could find, he dangles feet over the edge and looks out over the dead city. If he closes his eyes he’s not alone, six people taking their places beside him.
