Nightmare felt right.
The trek through the forest was exactly the opposite of a sweet dream, you'd think riding the back of a fluffy wolf would be comfortable.
For the most part, it was, the fur was so soft it was like a cloud except add the many bones that jabbed into Violet with every step. But it was far better than tripping over every stone and vine, so she didn't complain.
No, that's not the nightmare. It wasn't the fog that made them go through a few loops into their journey, it wasn't bitter air that made goosebumps rise on her skin either.
The nightmare was the first drops of rain that fell from the sky, the rumbling of the sky following a flash of light."Storm...We need shelter."
After the words left her mouth, the rain started falling faster.Liam's wolf grunted as he picked up the pace, the previously fluffy fur becoming drenched as the beginning of rainfall turned into a downpour. Even Violet's clothes were not spared as they clung to her skin, the freezing cold spreading through her body.
Violet felt the emergency run through Liam as she clung to him, his chest thrumming faster when he leaped into the air.
Thunder roared from above as the mud below his paws started to turn to slush, he knew he had to get Violet out of the rain.
Without her wolf, she wouldn't survive a storm like this, the cold alone could end her. There was a sudden silence as Liam leaped into the air, a flash of light consuming them before landing. Violet was thrown from his back as the mud slipped him up, both of them tumbling down a hill when there was a drop beneath her.
A scream left her throat raw as she clawed the air and gripped a loose branch, her heart exploding in her ears.
"LIAM!!!"
Thunder clapped over her scream, glancing down she could see the miles down she would fall.
Crackling came from the branch as it dropped a little, another shriek leaving her mouth."LIAM!! HELP!!"
Violet could make out a few grunts and a growl here and there before the branch snapped, a split second she was hanging in the air falling.
There was a whirl of panic before a jolt, a physical jolt. Slowly she was lifted over the cliff and collapsed into the wet blanket of fur, tears brimming in her eyes.
"L-Liam...thank you, thank you!"A whine pulled her attention, Liam's wolf being pinned by another. Gasping as Violet peered up at the wolf she was clinging to, its eyes glaring into her when they met.
"O-oh."
It grunted before lifting her up by her clothes with its jaw, the other wolf stepping away from Liam who scrambled to his paws. Both followed the wolf carrying Violet until not far in the distance a house came into view.
The adrenaline from nearly falling to death still hummed in Violet's blood, but the cold and exhaustion were slowly settling in.
As they approached closer other shifters filed out of the house, their scents muffled together but a clear one stood among them. The Alpha stepped forward as the wolf carrying Violet slowed to a stop and lowered her to the ground, her legs shaking.
"Who are you?"
Once he asked Violet bowed her head respectfully, though her mind was still racing she had prepared the speech long beforehand."My name is Violet, Daughter of Alpha Damon of pack BlueBlood. I'm looking for pack CrimsonClaw in seek of an audience with their alpha."
There was a glance from him to his possible beta, even in the dark she was able to notice him raise an eyebrow.
"I am Alpha of CrimsonClaw."Violet smiled a little as rain dripped from her chin, then it slowly faded as all the adrenaline in her halted.
"That's good...Because I'm about to pass out."
For a moment he didn't seem to take her seriously but she did notice his face change when Violet started falling to her side, passing out in the mud.
The last thing she heard before falling was Liam's wolf whine and the Alpha calling for a medic. Then it was silent.
