A/N - Hey hey, sorry if this sucks. I'm not great at starting stories, but I promise future chapters will be better!

April wrapped her jacket tightly around herself, the cool autumn breeze hitting her as she stepped out of the sliding doors of the hospital.

She fished through her purse as she approached her car, pulling out her keys just as she reached the door. She threw her purse into the passenger seat as she climbed in, leaning her head against the headrest, and pulling her phone out of her back pocket.

Thirteen messages, ten of which were from the same person. April could never understand how her ex-husband found the time of day to message her as much as he did, especially when they worked the same hours.

She clicked open on the messages, scrolling through all that she had missed from him recently—not just today alone—but didn't fully focus her vision on any of them. She took a deep breath and then let it out slowly before clicking on his actual contact and scrolling down to the block button. Her thumb lingered over the button as she thought to herself. She was exhausted, exhausted with the messages, and exhausted with him, but there was something that held her back over and over again.

She took a deep breath, considering, but her thought was quickly interrupted by a knock on her driver's side window, pulling her attention away from her phone. Her head shot up as she jumped in her seat. She stared wide-eyed into the familiar blue eyes for a beat longer than she meant to. She rolled her window down, watching it all the way instead of staring at the person in front of her.

"Cooper, I'm tired." She said, refusing to look at him.

Cooper frowned and tilted his head to the side as he leaned through the window. "Come on, April, we need to talk."

She looked up at him and bit her lip. "I told you I don't want to talk."

Cooper stared at her for a second and then looked down. He felt embarrassed, April could tell. She watched him as he stared off at nothing, fidgeting with his hands, which were still folded together against the car. She knew his nervous habits; she had caved to them time and time again. They would argue, and he would start tapping a pen against something or fidgeting with his hands, like he was doing now, and each time she would give up, she would tell him everything would be fine. She wasn't going to do it this time.

"What is there to talk about, Cooper?" She asked, and Cooper continued to stare off. April sighed and ran a hand through her hair. She leaned her head back against the headrest again and stared up at the ceiling of her car. When she turned her head slightly to look at Cooper again, he was looking back up at her, about to say something, but before he could, she cut him off.

"We have tried Cooper. We have tried to fix things; it doesn't work." Her voice was almost a whisper, and there were tears forming in her eyes. It hurt her how things turned out; of course it did. But when Cooper reached out his hand to wipe a tear that had fallen, April stiffened up. She pushed his hand away, and they both straightened their posture. She sat up straight in her seat, wiping away the tears herself, and he took a step back.

April wasn't going to let him have the satisfaction of comforting her; she didn't need it, so instead, she turned to him, all fragility gone, and said, "You have called and messaged me more times than I can count. I thought my not answering would be enough to tell you that I'm not interested in any more conversations, but clearly it isn't." She paused for a short breath before finishing up. "I need you to stop."
