A sour taste plagued her tongue. Unconsciously, she puckered her lips as her jaw tightened and shifted her body closer to her thighs. She wasnt she how long she’d been sitting there, but she wanted to get rid of the rancid feeling spilling down her throat into her chest. Her nose wrinkled as grass prickled the pads of her bare feet, and she scrunched the damp blades between her toes, plucking them from the ground.
She sighed heavily, then took a deep breath, causing her nose to twitch. The air was thick with a rich earthy scent.
It was going to rain soon.
A faint smile grew on her lips and her muscles relaxed under the permeating aroma. She leaned back, resting her hands on the ground. Dirt smeared across her palms, but she paid it no mind. Instead, she directed her attention above her, taking in the shades of pale gray, painting the sky as droplets of water trickled down her cheeks. With each bead crashing into her skin, she felt peace washing over her body, and the acidity torturing her tastebuds melted away.
