November arrived gradually, bringing the icy cold weather and the first snowfall of the year with it. Calysta remembered it very clearly, how she was seated in Professor Flitwick's class, right near the window, when she saw light flurries of snow fluttering down from the endless cloudy sky. She squealed loudly, in the middle of the lesson, declaring to the whole class of Slytherins and Gryffindors that it was snowing.

Although Professor Flitwick had nicked off a point from Gryffindor for her outburst, he realized she was far too jumpy to actually concentrate, and let the class go ten minutes earlier to go enjoy the snow outside.

Elated, she dragged her friends out with her, and because the snow wasn't enough to have a snowball fight or build a snowman, they settled on chasing each other as the little flakes of ice fell from the sky gracefully.

Malfoy had made immense fun of her for her behavior, claiming she was acting like a child.

"Potterette, how old are you, five? Even I never played in the snow like a little child," he scoffed.

Calysta shrugged it off nonchalantly. "Because you don't know the definition of fun," she'd remarked, before setting off with her friends.

The mountains around the school became icy gray and the lake like chilled steel. Every morning the ground was covered in frost. Hagrid could be seen from the upstairs windows defrosting broomsticks on the Quidditch field, bundled up in a long moleskin overcoat, rabbit fur gloves, and enormous beaverskin boots.

The Quidditch season had begun. On Saturday, Calysta would be playing in her first match after weeks of training: Gryffindor versus Slytherin. If Gryffindor won, they would move up into second place in the House Championship.

Hardly anyone had seen the Potters play because Wood had decided that, as their secret weapons, Harry and Calysta should be kept, well, secret. But the news that they were playing the position of Chaser and Seeker had leaked out somehow, and Calysta didn't know which was worse — people telling her she'd be brilliant or people telling her they'd be running around underneath her and Harry holding a mattress.

Harry and Ron seldom hung around her and her friends any more, particularly because Hermione kept company with them. Although things were cool between Hermione and Calysta, Calysta couldn't help but admit that she would lose it if she spent any more time around Hermione. She didn't really hate Hermione, per se, but she knew Hermione didn't like getting into trouble, and Calysta and her friends were the literal definition of the word itself.

Harry did tell her that Hermione had become rather lax about following the rules ever since they saved her from the mountain troll, and she assisted Harry and Ron in completing their homework, which he claimed was a huge help.
