Chapter 5: Moving On

A/N This next part touches on Xiao's backstory of being one of the Five Yakshas, but only barely. This is the last chapter before the epilogue. This will also be a short chapter.

Bosacius PoV

Bosacius had felt his heart shatter to pieces the moment he saw Alatus weeping over Yumi's dead body. He rushed in, embracing Alatus in two of his arms and raising Yumi's limp arm, checking for a pulse. There was none.

He was surprised when Morax gave Alatus a new name: Xiao. The name felt peculiar on his tongue at first, but Alatus had insisted on the new name.

Bosacius guessed it was because of Yumi's final words, as Ala- Xiao didn't seem like one who would move on so quickly. And his careful eyes caught a bright, fiery white stone that Xiao had taken from Yumi.

If Bosacius had to guess, it was her remaining heart, forged from the last tear she shed. Adepti left behind their hearts after death as a way of sharing their final wishes. Bosacius was too cautious to ask Xiao if he could inspect it, though. He felt it'd be... disrespectful.

Menogias had spoken to Xiao alone at one point, and had told Bosacius that he felt Xiao was... being unreasonable.

Xiao used to be a free spirit, light and carefree. He could laugh and have fun easily despite his loner attitude. Menogias, wise as he was, found him to be distant and hard, not speaking to anyone except those closest to him and Morax.

And here Bosacius was now, stuck in the Chasm of all places. He could only chuckle to himself as he could finally remember his friends. His family. Alatus, or Xiao. Menogias. Indarias. Bonanus.

And of course, sweet, sweet Yumi who passed much sooner than she should. The rest of them had lived thousands of years, and she had only got to live a mere twenty or less. Bosacius couldn't remember.

Darkness foggily began to cover his vision as electro particles swirled around him. He coughed, a terrible sound. His eyesight cleared for a moment, allowing him to catch sight of the faded silhouette of a young girl that he knew all too well.

Then he allowed death to take him.
