The beginning of November had finally rolled around. Halloween decorations from the previous night laid around the college dorm halls, having not yet been taken care of by its residents. Renory, a fairly large blonde man, stood by the kitchen counter in his dorm. He's been alone for.. some time now. Normally, his half cousin Shuttle would be just now waking up, and coming into the room for cereal. But this hasn't been the case for about a week now. He hasn't heard back from his dad either.
Whatever was going on back home, made Renory anxious. First, it was kids around the high school going missing.. now it's his whole family too.
He wished he could go back home to investigate, but everything going on here has only put a strain on those plans. Work, school, guitar lessons, sports.. He didn't have enough free days to drive back home.
He looked at his morning glass of water with deep thought on this."Where are you guys..." He muttered under his breath, before focusing his attention back onto his phone for the 5th time this morning. He had hoped for any sort of response from anyone. But like usual.. nothing.
Suddenly, the voice of someone unfamiliar caught his attention.
"You aren't Shuttle."
Renory quickly turned around to face whoever this stranger invading his dorm was, only to find something.. odd. Not human. Of course, things that weren't human were totally normal. After all, The Dearests existed in Philly. They're living proof of demons being real.
But Renory didn't think this was a Demon. No. As far as he was aware, demons didn't come in.. 3D polygonal graphics.
Before him was something of that sort. It was short, with a red and black hat, matching its red and black body. It has a large toothy grin and two wide eyes. The thing kept eye contact with Renory as he observed it, refusing to cease its crazy grin that just.. really tied the whole thing together."I-" Renory began, trying to move past how weird this was. "No... he's my roommate. Uh-"
He awkwardly paused, as he scratched his back.
"Am I awake?""You'll wish you werent!" The polygonal being smiled menacingly at Renory before continuing.
"Shuttle and I go thrifting every thursday." It pulled out a cellphone from seemingly nowhere and looked through it, "He has not messaged me that this is otherwise this week."
Renory knew about Thursday Thrifting with Shuttle. He never really came along, but Shuttle seemed to save every thursday for a trip to Goodwill with his bestie. This must be them.
The being flew up closer to Renory's face, it's grin seeming to somehow grow in size.
"So.." it began, getting closer as it's grin grew wider, "Where is he, Big Boy?"
Renory had his back against the counter at this point. His only escape from whatever this thing was either left or right of him, but something told him that this thing wouldn't let him take advantage of either. Tears welled up when he heard it's question. He tried to hold them back. He tried not to crumble in front of this thing... but after all this time, irs become too much.
"I DONT KNOW!!!" Renory sobbed, "And I dunno where Ron is, or where Dad is, or ANY of those other guys!!!"
The polygonal one simply stared at the ugly-sobbing man with a blank expression. Other guys? Shuttle wasn't the only one who was missing? This certainly brought up some curiosity within it.
"Well," it began, "none of those are my fault.. which concerns me." It landed back on the ground and backed away from Renory.
"No need for the intimidation tactic then. What a shame."A clawed hand appeared in front of it. Assumably it's hand. In a swift wave of its hand, the polygonal one was no longer polygonal.
It became a short human, with curly brown hair peaking out from under their Red beanie. Their black and red body was now a red hoodie with black stripes, with the pocket resembling the mouth to the eye shape on their hoodie's chest. They had jeans on, with red and black sneakers perfectly matching their hoodie. They held their still-sharp clawed hands together.
"Now then... Tell me everything."---
"Don't you think it's kinda creepy..?" One student uttered in the hallways to another, "All these disappearances... at first I thought it was some creep, but with Mr Algebra and one of their parents going missing too..""At this point, I can't even begin to get an idea as to why any of this is happening." The other student responded, looking visibly uncomfortable about this subject, "but.. can we not talk about it? Maybe? Please??"
"Alright alright.. what, are you afraid you're gonna get snatched up too or somethin'??"
"That's not funny, Carly.."
"I wasn't trying to be funny, Jane. Jeez, why would I joke about something like that??"
Carly put a hand on her friends shoulder. "Look, I'm tryna tell you not to worry about it. I'm sure you're not gonna get snatched up. And if someone tries, I know you're too cool of a kid to let them."
Jane gave a shy smile in return. She had nothing verbal to say, but her appreciation for those words was very clear to Carly.
The warning bell rung out, leaving Carly to run off in a different direction to her class. Jane had a free period, which left an unfortunate opportunity for her to talk to another aquaintance of hers."I hope you didn't tell her anything, Jane. It already almost went out once before.." Bob came seemingly out of nowhere and approached Jane from behind, remaining in their human form in case anyone decided to intervene. Jane shivered as she turned around to face them.
"I know what'll happen if I did.." she gripped her arm sling's strap as she stared at Bob, "What're you doing here anyway? Didn't you have another "dentist appointment" or something?"
Bob snickered, "Pff, nahh. You got dates all mixed up there! What, I can't hang out with my acquaintance?? You think all I do is torture my victims? I'm a guy with a life outside of that, Noah. Could've sworn that was clear to you by now!"
"Bob, nothings clear with you! Especially not your motivations!" Jane backed away as Bob came in for a "friendly" and light jab at her non-broken arm.
"And they're supposed to be? Who said? Nobody I bet. Yknow- if you're gonna try making me explain stuff to you, you really should come up with some better material..." He shrugged, "Or stop all together, honestly I'd like that more."
Jane huffed a bit, only for Bob to grin in response. She hated him. If only she could move schools just to get out of this situation. But that would be impossible at this point.
"I hate you."
"Aw, she thinks I care." They finally backed off from Jane. "Nice chat we had, but I'm gonna be on my way now. Don't do anything stupid now~!"
Jane watched as Bob left down the hall, sighing to herself. Why did it have to happen to her? Why did she have to get involved?
Why?
