I sat on the couch, awkwardly looking around me. The guys stared at me, probably waiting to see what I would say or do. It was getting me real nervous. Finally, one of them spoke up.
"So, Jasmine, what's it like where you're from?"
"California?" Sodapop nodded. "Oh, um... it's very sunny and pretty. The beaches are great, and there's a store and restaurant around every corner."
"Sounds like a nice place to live" he replied. I nodded and smiled weakly. He still had no shirt on, and it was making me blush. I'm guessing one of the guys, younger looking, noticed since he told him to go put one on.
"Soda! You're still wearing no shirt! Go put one on!" Soda stood up and walked into the hallway. "Sorry 'bout that" he apologized. This kid seems like a nice guy.
"It's alright" I replied. It got quiet again, which I didn't like at all. "So, tell me about this town" I said, a bit quiet. But, I think they heard me.
"It's real... quiet. I mean, there're parts of town where you don't want to end up..." the young looking guy said. And I thought I would of learned their names by now.
"Like the rich side of town" another guy spoke up.
"What's wrong with the rich side of town?" he pulled out a cigarette and lit it up.
"That's where all the Soc are at" he replied, a rough edge in his voice. I still didn't get it, but decided not to ask any questions.
"Soc are the people that throw parties and get drunk, and they jump us greasers for fun" the young guy said. Oh, well that makes more sense.
"That's kind of messed up" I mumbled.
"I know, but there's nothing we can do about" he said. I looked at him. His golden brown hair combed back, he had a good built for his size or age, but what I liked most about him, was his eyes. They were like a hazel or light brown, but so captivating.
"What's your name, I didn't seem to catch it earlier" I asked.
"I'm Ponyboy, but you can call me Pony" he replied. I smiled.
"What an original name" I said.
"Yea, well my dad was an original person, that's how Soda got his name" he responded. That's when he walked in.
"Are y'all talking about me?" A goofy smile was on his face, and his eyes twinkled with happiness. He took a seat next to me, getting a bit too close. I scooted over a bit, trying my hardest not to make it obvious that I was extremely nervous. It was my first day here, and I didn't want to make a bad impression.
"Any who, do you plan to finish school?" I shrugged.
"I haven't actually thought about that..." I replied. " I mean, it would be the best thing to do, but I don't know."
"Why not? You can get the education to get the job of your dreams" Pony said. I stayed quiet.
"Man, Pony, why are we suddenly talking about school? You're going to bore me to death" Soda whined. I slightly smiled at that. Pony rolled his eyes at his brother.
"Shut up, Soda" Pony replied. I got the urge to laugh, but I held it back.
"Look at that, Jasmine looks like she's about to crack up" Two-Bit said.
