Chapter Thirty-One:

Battle of the Minds Pt 9.

KID POV

Kaito watched as the others headed out the door towards the dining hall. He was tired of being left behind, but in this particular challenge someone needed to stay and being that he is a cat and can't exactly just come out and say, "Hey, this is Kaito!" It made sense that it would be him.

Though if he had to admit it, a sly grin spreading across his face, the thought of going out there and scaring the other participants did sound fun.

Yeah, No. Everyone would probably freak out if he did that, plus the fact that it would lead to questions that he would rather not answer. Then of course he would have to deal with a very ticked off group of detectives. Definitely not something that would lead to Kaito having a good day.

The cat huffed as he curled into a ball on the bed, tucking his head into the fur of his tail. At least his body was feeling better. Before, every time he would move, it seemed like he would hit one of the wounds. Luckily, the only thing that really bothered him now were his wrists and ankles, none of which he could put much pressure on.

"Definitely need to fix that before the next heist", he muttered to himself.

It had been almost a month since the fire, meaning a month since his last heist. The longest he had ever gone without having one was five weeks and by that time Nakamori was practically ready to kill his own men as he waited anxiously for word from the thief.

'Maybe I should send him a letter, signing it Kaitou Kid' he thought to himself with an amused smirk, 'wouldn't that just make the inspector's day?'

Sighing, he shook his head and laughed. "It probably would."

A knock on the door caught his attention, drawing him from his homeward thoughts. He waited, watching the door to see if perhaps someone would say something, but it was quiet until he noticed the handle slightly moving. Someone was breaking into their room?

Ducking down beneath the bed, he waited and watched as a man stepped into the room. He recognized him as the front desk worker. The man looked around the room before shutting the door behind him and relocking it.

Kaito watched him from his position beneath the bed. Why was the man in their room? The man in question looked around the room before removing a small white envelope from his pocket and placing it in the middle of the floor. He then quickly fled the room, hoping to remain unseen.

Kaito snuck out from his hiding spot and looked at the envelope. A challenge clue? He wondered as he started towards it. He wasn't expecting it when a hand grabbed him out of nowhere, yanking him roughly away from the envelope. Before he could even put up a fight, a white cloth was covering his face and darkness swept him away.

HAKUBA POV

Saguru looked around the dining hall at the three other remaining teams. He noticed Megumi and her two friends right away; he also noticed Aki wasn't with them. He then noticed the other two groups all watching Shinichi, Hattori, and Rinji rather intensely, each one member less than their original number, but still giving off a rather determined aura.

Competitive, aren't they? He whispered to himself.

He missed having Kaito with him who could constantly hear his voice. Still, it couldn't be helped. With Kaito being a cat, there was no way the thief could do this challenge. It honestly worked out that someone had to stay behind so that they didn't have to make an excuse for their friend.
