I stood with Jeremy and Stefan in the hallway at Jeremy's locker, Jeremy and I just got done putting up the goldfish toss for their school carnival. Stefan handed him a braided vervain bracelet. "It's the same as the bracelet Elena gave you." Stefan explain. Jeremy "It protects me from compulsion." Jeremy comments, i supconiously rub my earrings. Stefan nods his head, "Vervain is toxic to vampires." He explains
"Like poison?" Jeremy asks
"Yeah, it's very poisonous. It keeps them out of your head."
"But why vervain?"
"Don't know, certain natural herbs and roots and other elements are just harmful to vampires."
"Like a stake to the heart?"
"Right but it has to be wood."
"You're pretty confident in yourself telling me all the different ways I could kill you."
"Jeremy, if I thought you wanted to kill me we would be having a much different conversation."
"Yeah, Damon is the one that deserves it." Jeremy says I look down to the ground I feel Stefan squeeze my hand gently. "I want you to forget about Damon, all right? He's hundred times stronger than you and right now he's not stable. You got to try to move forward." Stefan says causing me to look at Stefan with a confused look. "Stefan he was killed by a vampire and brought back by a magic ring. How do you move forward from that?" I ask him in a gentle tone.
"Right. Well, today we have a nice little distraction courtesy of the slave driver Elena." Stefan says as Elena arrives. I give her a small kind smile, "Hey Elena." I say softly at the same time as Stefan says, "Hello Elena." He wraps an arm around her waist causing me to roll my eyes. "Hey, did you..." Elena starts before Jeremy cuts her off. "Yeah, yeah, Hesperia and I set up the gold fish toss all three hundred gold fish." He says before turning to me. "It's gonna be epic!" we both say sarcastically before he leaves closing his locker.
Stefan: He's gonna be alright, he's just been through a little bit of an ordeal.
Elena: I was just hoping that this carnival would reel him back into the land of a high school teenager.
Stefan: That was what we were doing here?
Elena: Yes, we all are. We're going to be boring high school students who live in a world where the "v" word is not uttered.
Stefan: Got it!
Elena: Then later you're going to take me to the Ferris wheel, we're gonna ride to the very top and then you're gonna kiss me and my heart will flutter like a normal high school girl. Do you see a running theme here?" She says and I gag playfully. "Gross I'm gonna go check on Jeremy." I say before running off.
Jeremy and I walk around the carnival helping out with random things. We take a seat under a large oak tree and drink from some water bottles. I look towards the ground and before looking up at him. "I'm sorry." I say softly causing him to look at me confused. "Why are you sorry? You helped save me." He says gently and I look down at my hands. "Damon is my brother, I should have known something was going to happen. I should have known and I should have been able to stop it." I say rambling a bit. Jeremy surprises me and pulls me into a close hug.
Stefan's POV
I walk into the parlor and Damon is pouring a blood bag in a glass. "Care for one?" Damon asks me and I shake my head. "No, thank you. I'm not hungry, just ate." I tell him "Are you worried that one day, all the forest animals are gonna band together and fight back? I mean, surely they talk." Damon says.
"I'm just happy that's a blood bag and not a sorority girl supplying your dinner." I counter and he laughs. "I like this. You, walking on eggs shells around me because you think I'm gonna explode. Very suspenseful. Is Elena worried too? I bet I'm your every conversation."
"I'm glad you get a kick out of it. Speria is terrified to come home because of what you did you know." I tell him and his movements freeze. "Have you heard from Katherine?" I ask him and he shakes it off. "I think the Lockwoods have a family secret because the Gilbert device affected them but vervain didn't so they're not vampires, they're something else."
"Is this your new obsession?" I ask him.
"You'd rather some unknown supernatural element running rampant upon our town. Fine, I'll drop it."
"We haven't seen the last of Katherine, you do know that right? We have no idea what she's up to."
"Sure we do. She came back to profess her undying eternal love for you so I'm gonna let you deal with her because I have more important things to do like explode. Cheers!" Damon says before finishing his glass of blood.
Hesperia's POV
I smile softly as I walk around the carnival with Jeremy. It looked almost magical, "Wow it's absolutely beautiful." I mumble to myself. Jeremy smiles and holds out his elbow, I smile and loop my arm through his. "Come on I'll get us a popcorn." He says. Jeremy hands the money over to the vender when Damon's voice fills my ears. "Jeremy, it's so good to see you alive." He says causing Jeremy and I to turn around and face him. "Aren't you a little old for a high school carnival?" He asks him as I step closer to Jeremy. Damon shrugs. "A hundred and fifty years too old." He says as he takes some of Jeremy's popcorn and eats it. "You're pretty funny cracking jokes when I could I don't know...blow the whole lid off this thing by telling someone what you really are." Jeremy says causing me to look up at him. "Jer please." I say softly before Damon grabs the back of his neck and takes him away from the crowd. I trail after them, "Damon, Damon! Please stop!" I call after him. "So please tell me that that is not a threat." Damon says in a quiet voice. "Maybe it is." Jeremy says as he shows him the ring and Damon chokes him from behind with an arm under his chin. "Damon let him go!" I shout at him hitting his back. "This is what we're not gonna do: we're not gonna walk around like we are invincible when it's this easy for me to end you." He starts, before he releases Jeremy causing me to fall off of his back. "If you want to tell people what I really am go ahead and try." Damon holds up Jeremy's ring; he stole it from his hand, "I will shove this ring so far up your ass, you'll really have something to choke on." Damon says as he flicks the ring at Jeremy's face and leaves while Jeremy holds his face where the ring hit him in pain before looking down and recovering the ring. I sit up in pain and Jeremy runs over and helps me to my feet. "Are you alright?" I ask him softly he laughs lightly. "Yeah I'm alright." He says softly before leading me off to enjoy the rest of the carnival.
