The last few days Y/N would spend with her best friend have come to an end. They were now at the airport and Y/N was having a really hard time letting go of Natalie's hand. When they got to TSA she had no choice but to let go. They said their goodbyes and that was that. Y/N got into the car with Natalie's parents and back home they went.
The first month of Summer went as Natalie had promised to Y/N. They would facetime every night and text throughout the day. Natalie never mentioned the letter or if she even read it. Y/N was a nervous wreck. After that first month, the communication started to die down. Natalie had gotten busier with her summer plans across the world and couldn't talk as much. The last month of Summer was complete radio silence. Y/N didn't want to bother Natalie so she sat around even more just waiting for Natalie to text or call first. Natalie never did.
=====
The first day of senior year was just a couple of days away and Y/N hasn't spoken to her best friend for a record time of one month. Y/N was depressed and heartbroken thinking Natalie had forgotten about her and possibly made another best friend in Europe. Or maybe was weirded out by her after reading the letter.
Then suddenly there was a familiar text tone playing on Y/N's phone. Natalie and Y/N had made custom text tones and ringtones for each other so they wouldn't ignore them as they did with other people. Y/N leaped towards her phone and stared at her friend's name displayed. Hey, can we meet at Joe's Cafe? Y/N's heart was racing her friend didn't forget about her. She texted back immediately. She ran to her closet, getting ready to meet with her first love.
As she entered the cafe, she was engulfed by the smell of donuts and coffee. The cafe was small, it had bar seating where Y/N and Natalie normally sat, as well as a couple of booths for larger parties. This time Y/N noticed Natalie wasn't sitting at the bar but at a booth. Confused, she walks over and notices that Natalie is laughing with someone. She makes her way around the booth and stands to the side, "Hey, Nat."
"Y/N!!" Natalie leaped out of the booth and gave her friend the tightest hug she'd ever given her. Y/N wrapped her arms around her tightly as well. She never wanted to let go so she pulled back a little still holding onto Natalie.
"I'm so happy to see you," Y/N confessed softly and lovingly. "Me too," replied Natalie.
Then Y/N noticed a presence next to Natalie and made eye contact with the person. Natalie turned around, letting go of Y/N to hold the other's arm. "Oh gosh how rude of me. Issac, meet Y/N my best friend. Y/N, this is Issac. My boyfriend!"
It's as if Y/N's world came to a halt. She was shocked. She was heartbroken. "I-I-," she stuttered. "It's very nice to meet you Y/N. Nat has told me so much about you," Issac said in an English accent pulling his hand out to try and shake hands with her. She however was still frozen. Feeling awkward, Natalie touched Y/N's shoulder, "Y/N?"
"Oh yes. Haha, I'm sorry. It's very nice to meet you, Issac. Sorry, did you guys order yet? I'm sorry I'm going to go use the restroom," Y/N blabbered while quickly making her way out of their bubble toward the restroom. She leaned on the sink staring at herself in the mirror. Her mind was racing. Did Natalie read the letter? When did she meet this guy? Is this why Natalie has been ghosting her for almost the entire summer?
Y/N knew she couldn't stay in there forever so she begrudgingly made her way toward the restroom door. As she opened the door, she accidentally bumped into someone knocking the girl to the floor. "I'm so sorry are you okay?" Y/N asked helping her up. "You say sorry a lot," the girl said while brushing her clothes off. She looked up at Y/N with a smirk. "I'm sor-. Yeah I guess I have a habit of doing that," chuckled Y/n.
Y/N recognized this girl. She was very beautiful with very distinctive features. "Do I know you from somewhere?" Y/N asked. "We go to school together and we've had a couple of classes together," the girl helped refreshen Y/N's memories. "Oh yes! Jenna, you're dating Logan right?"
"Yep," Jenna said popping the word at the end. She moves past Y/N toward the sink fixing her hair. "I'm sorry. I'm horrible with names," Y/N said awkwardly while rubbing the back of her neck. Jenna looked at her with one brow lifted and a smirk. "You did it again," she chuckled. Y/N rolled her eyes jokingly, "I have to work on that."
"I'll see you at school, Jenna," Y/N smiled at her making her way out. "Bye, Y/N," she heard as she walked out. She went back to the booth where Natalie and Issac were and took a seat in front of them.
"How was the restroom?" Issac asked. "Stop it," laughed Natalie slapping his chest and then leaning into him. He had his arm around her, resting his hand on her hip. Y/N wanted to gag at the sight of them. "So... did you guys order yet?" Y/N asked trying to get rid of the awkwardness. "Yes, we did. I ordered your usual for you. Is that okay?" asked Natalie. "Yeah, that's wonderful," Y/N smiled at her best friend. She was so happy Natalie didn't forget about her or her favorite meal here. Even though this isn't the ideal situation, she's just glad she didn't lose her best friend.
"So... how did the two of you meet?" Y/N asked. She wanted to know more, not because she was happy for them. She wanted to see how he did it. How he was able to have her. How any of this was possible? The pair started to explain their story and Y/N listened intently. Suddenly there was a commotion on the other end of the cafe. The three of them focused their attention on the noise. The next thing they see is Jenna storming out of the cafe while the group she left behind is in shock. One of the boys in the group, Logan, who was the star football player of their school and supposedly Jenna's boyfriend, had his arm wrapped around another girl. He was pretending to not be embarrassed by Jenna's outburst.
Looks like he's in trouble, Y/N thought.
"Oh god, that girl is trouble," Natalie said rolling her eyes. "Who? The girl with Logan?" asked Y/N. "No, that girl Jenna," Natalie replied annoyingly. "What did she do," Y/N asked genuinely curious, "She seems nice to me."
"You seriously don't remember? She tried to rip us apart when we were younger. I bet you that girl with Logan was his real girlfriend and Jenna's just a slut that tried to take him," Natalie said rolling her eyes. Y/N was flattered her crush cared for their friendship that much she still hated the girl that tried to rip them apart. Although Y/N was shocked. There's no way that's true. Jenna seemed decent enough. Y/N always trusted her gut and her gut was always right. Also, how come she doesnt remember Jenna being in her life that early on? She just shrugged it off and blamed it on selective memory.
They finished their meals and made their way outside. Natalie and Issac started making out in front of Y/N. It made her sick to her stomach and she wanted to run away from them. "Hey, Y/N. I think I'll be going home with Issac. You can go on home."
"Oh, I thought we could hang out today since we haven't hung out in so long," Y/N looked down. Sad and upset she just waited for them to be done sucking each other's faces for nothing.
"We'll hang out later. Tomorrow," Natalie said giving her a kiss on the cheek and a quick hug. She ran to Issac and they both got in her car and drove away.
Y/N sighed and walked to her car, but changed her mind. She didn't want to go home yet. She turned away from her car and started to walk down the street. She wanted a distraction from the mess that was in her mind. She needed answers to her questions, but there was no way she'd get them answered unless she just asked. Natalie was the love of her life, but she was in love with someone else. Natalie seemed happy, but Y/N wanted her to be happy with herself and only her.
This was jealousy. Her heart ached. She needed a plan to take back her Natalie.
