Yeonjun POV

Present time

-Jeon mansion-

-------

The meeting with the five families went well and a few of them were currently checking out the dead kid we found. I was happy that they would finally be leaving, but the Kim brothers ended up inviting them to stay for a few days. It wasn't like I didn't like them, they seemed like perfectly pleasant vampires, but I always felt so awkward around them. It was as if they were always watching me.

I first began to notice their stares when we were eating. I was having a perfectly nice conversation with Soobin when I looked up, only to see almost all of the families staring at me. I was going to nudge Jungkook and ask him if he noticed anything, but he was busy talking with his brothers.

'His brothers...'

I honestly couldn't believe that Jungkook had brothers. I knew that he was a vampire, too many signs were showing up that he was while we were growing up. But for some reason, it was as if his transformation was delayed.

Vampires usually start craving blood when they are a baby, but their undeniable thirst appears around the same time they hit puberty. Fangs would then start to grow, causing the young vampire's gums to be sore so they would usually teethe. That's what happened with me and my brothers. However, that never happened to Jungkook. We didn't know we were vampires when Jungkook went into puberty, so we didn't notice that he wasn't developing.

Me and my brothers learned that we were vampires when Soobin and I turned fifteen. The two of us were excited for our birthday since we would always celebrate by going on a picnic in the park with Jungkook hyung. The five of us ended up deciding to stay up so that we could celebrate our birthday together at exactly twelve AM.

What was supposed to be a small celebration before the picnic the next morning turned into one of my worst memories.

FLASHBACK

It was ten minutes til midnight. Me and my brothers were all gathered around Soobin and I's bed, counting the seconds until midnight. I was excited to turn fifteen mainly because I could finally get a job, and we desperately needed money if we wanted to get a place once we turn eighteen. Our younger brothers were all bouncing happily on their feet, excited for Soobin and I's birthday.

It wasn't like we did this every year, we usually would let the birthday boy(s) sleep in while the rest would make them breakfast in bed. They would also do their chores, give them their outdoor time, and give them a small gift they either bought with the small amount of money the orphanage director would give them or that they made themselves.

It wasn't anything extravagant, but it was everything we ever wanted. The people we cared about making sure we had the best day we could, and in return we would do the same for their birthday.
