When they were about to swing in the center, the night's emcee caught their attention by saying in a booming voice of, 'Ladies and gentlemen. May I have your attention please.'Athena watched as the emcee gestured a couple to come forward. She squinted her eyes on who the loud emcee was gesturing to. She realized it was Matt and it instantly brought a warm feeling in her heart and a huge smile on her lips. But the smile stopped in mid-air when Matt wasn't alone and Ms. Danvers was beside him. Matt, his hands lingering on Ms. Danvers' small back, while the latter smiled shyly up at him.
The couple came towards the gesturing emcee. Matt leaned forward to the man and whispered something into his ear. The emcee then gave them the floor as to what they were about to announce.
"Good evening, everyone," Matt said in a firm voice. "I would like to announce and proudly tell you that Ms. Danvers and I is, engaged."
Congratulations and Wishing you wells are heard from every corner of the room. Then came the uproarious clapping of hands and clinking and toasting of wine glasses.
Athena couldn't believe it. She wobbled on Edmond's arms. Slightly knowing that the man was at her side and holding her still. It's as if her world stopped spinning instantly. All her energy was sucked in by a violent maelstrom leaving her devoid of emotions.
Some onlookers that saw her, looked at her with pity and sympathy. But she didn't heed any of them. She still watched the smiling and obviously in love couple with a heavy and abused heart.
Edmond, though haven't experienced what it was to be in love, felt pain for Athena. Her pale face and now watery eyes are becoming quite obvious. Athena's face is an open book, where you can easily see the play of emotions playing in it. Without warning, she removed herself from Edmond's now-firm grip and ran towards the direction of the gardens.
