Edmond pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes intensely, and opening them after. For Christ's sake. "Stop it, Athena. You're making yourself a fool by crying over an unimportant reason."Athena immediately looked at him resentfully, "Unimportant? You're being cruel," and resolved once more to crying rather loudly.
Edmond rolled his eyes. Jeez, the woman. Before he knew it, he crossed the distance between them and quite forcefully pulled the woman in question in his chest and resumed her crying there.
"Hush, pigeon. You must understand that loving someone is not at all about luck. You love them, yet they don't love you. You care for them, but they care for somebody else," he said while rocking her ever gently. He sighed.
Athena stopped her crying, and looked up at Edmond. She became aware of his arms, soothing up and down her back. That felt nice, she realized. But, it was Edmond, The Rake holding her.
Immediately, she squirmed under his embrace and finally got herself out. It felt odd to feel that without Edmond's arms, she is feeling quite incomplete. She shrugged.
"You've never even been in love, how can you assume that it is thus?" arching an eyebrow at him.
"I have."
"You what? In love? Bah! Impossible," she said while holding her giggles at bay.
"I have been in love, Athena." Then looked at her for so long until it becomes awkward under his perusal.
"Pray tell, who is this unlucky woman?" Now becoming serious.
"It is of no importance now. Let us go back to the hall, lest your mother will call the attentions of everyone, and may put us as the subjects of tea-room meetings."
"No. Not unless you tell me who the damsel is." Pulling on both his sleeves with both her hands, with a curious twinkle in her eyes.
Women. He grunted. He then looked at the woman in front of him, and his eyes darted on her natural cherry-colored lips. Just a taste. He then lowered his head on hers and...
"What are you doing?" Eyes wide, she almost shrieked or panicked, or maybe both.
"Nothing. There's a smudge on your cheek," he said to cover up at what he would about to do to her. Again.
