Athena could feel her cheeks burning. Who wouldn't be embarrased if one is thrown in the midst of a man's thighs. And the man in question is somewhat embarrased too. His cheeks are tainted with a pink hue. But what caught her eye the most is the bulging thing that was somewhat placed between his groin. If embarrassment could kill, she would've died eons ago.Edmond caught both her arms to steady her but the carriage suddenly moved, then halted once again. And voila! the embarrassing scene just got all the more embarrassing. She was pushed into his chest and dear Edmond was totally hugging her now. By Jove! That tingling sensation being held by him.
"I, er, sorry. I-I'll ask Mr. Riggors what was wrong," he stammered, taking firmly both her arms and seated her securely at the opposite chair facing him. He tapped the sliding window behind him, and asked Mr. Riggors what was wrong.
"I'm sorry, sir. But I believe our carriage wheel broke off, somewhat," Mr. Riggors said apologetically.
"Can it be mended immediately?" he asked.
"I'm sorry to tell you sir, but no. I suggest you take the horses, sir with Lady Cottswold to Bath."
Edmond thought for a while then asked, "Are there any inns near here?"
"I believe so, sir. It's five miles from here."
"Then alright. We'll take the horses. You ride the other horse, and I'll ride the other one along with Lady Cottswold," he said plaintively.
"But I need to fix this first, sir. Her Ladyship would be disappointed of she knows her most cherished carriage is being left in the middle of the road," the aged coachman explained.
"No. We've been riding for over a quarter miles, and we need rest. I should just let someone fix this mess when we reach the inn," Edmond insisted.
The old coachman only agreed and relief washed over his face. He needs rest too after how many miles of riding and not stopping.
Edmond then closed the tiny sliding door and faced Athena who was looking at him expectantly. He explained the mishap and suggested they alight the carriage and would ride the horse to the nearest inn to rest.
Athena didn't have the heart and energy to protest because though her mind says they should go on, her body says otherwise. And off they went to the nearest inn possible and before they know it they're already in front of Balustrade Inn. It's facade looked inviting enough. But only could they judge thoroughly if they've laid their backs in the softest cushion bed and rest pleasantly.
They alighted the horse and Edmond helped her down by placing his hands on her waist and she could feel once again that tingling sensation and the warmth spreading through her body when the man was at close proximity.
She shrugged and they went inside to inquire if there are rooms available for three persons. The portly fella gave both Edward and her a measuring glance then Mr. Riggors.
"I'm sorry sir, but we only have two available rooms left," said the man.
"Okay. We'll take it," Edmond said without even consulting Athena.
"Wha-" her resounding protest died immediately when Edmond commanded they should be shown in to their rooms. She doesn't have any choice but to follow.
