"You're all dolled up. Where are you going?"

Sabrina blinks away her trance, her hands sliding down from where they had acted as a resting place for her chin, and she faces a chirpy Kitty. She can't find the energy to speak even at twelve in the afternoon, let alone be so incredibly enthused, whereas her mother keeps this vivacity from the moment she wakes up until she goes to bed. She truly admires her for that. In those few seconds, Kitty had perched opposite her at the kitchen table, placing the coffee mugs in front of them.

"Shopping." She attempts to keep her tone airy, keep it convincing. She encases the mug with her hands, enjoying the warmth it emits. "With Donna."

Kitty's eyes narrow at her as if she can see through her, her smile somewhat wavering. "Shopping?"

"Yes, mother," Sabrina goes on, straightening up, while Kitty simply stares at her, not believing her enthusiasm in the slightest. Her formal tone does nothing to alter that belief. "I'm indulging in the leisure of hunting for clothes. Is that bad?"

"Sweetheart, drop the act." At her words, Sabrina forms a pout, her shoulders slumping. "You hate shopping, and Donna knows that, too."

"Donna nagged me to go with her. To, um, help her out."

"Again. She never does that. Well, very rarely at least. For example, there's the day when she wanted to find something to wear for her first date with Eric . . ." Kitty trails off, and it's not long after her words fade that she deciphers the likely reason. If it's even possible, her grin brightens. "So, she's shopping for a special event! What is it? Is it about her and Eric? Oh no. Should I be concerned?"

"No! It's nothing like that," Sabrina insists upon hearing the last query, wanting to cover for her friend. Kitty had become rather unsettled about certain sexual aspects of Donna and Eric's relationship after discovering that Donna started taking the pill. "It's not about them."

"Then what? A school event?" Sabrina opens her mouth to reply with her orchestrated lie, but Kitty figures it out before she gets the chance. "Oh, it's the prom Eric mentioned a few days ago, isn't it?"

"Uh . . . no." She fails at sounding convincing, mentally scolding herself for it. There's no going back now.

"Sabrina, honey," she starts in a warning tone. "You are going, aren't you?"

"Look, Mom, I just don't see the point," she admits, but Kitty isn't surprised by her distaste towards it; instead, a determined look forms on her face. Seeing that, Sabrina knows she's pretty much screwed. Her mother's ready to persuade her, and like always, she'll probably succeed. "I mean, maybe if they didn't have it at the gym in school, but they are. I might have good grades, but school still sucks in its entirety."
