''SHE HAD A STROKE. SHE'S GONE.''
The unexpected death of Tabitha's grandmother, Ruth, deals a blow to her small family--one that comes just as Tabitha is ending things with her long-term boyfriend.
Reeling from these two life-altering losses, Tabi...
Well, it's been a while since I wrote but it's because I've been a little busier than usual. I have had two baby showers and a wedding to attend in the past month.
Can you believe it? A February wedding. Two kids from church I taught in Sunday school. Lovely couple. Unusual timing, but it was a perfect ceremony. It snowed. They'll have pretty pictures.
Then there was a funeral, too, for Donald Claiborne. We knew it was coming but it didn't make it any easier to lose him. I've known him nearly since I met my Burton and he was a teacher here in town so you can imagine how packed the church was when we gathered to say our goodbyes. He was a good man.
So aside from all that, and cards, and taking care of this old bucket of nails I call a house, I have been doing a lot of painting. For the past few years I have made it a goal to paint at least one good snowy landscape every winter. When I told Edith that, she asked me how could I focus on a painting that's all white. You'd be surprised how much color is in a snowy landscape: a little bit of everything, if you look with an artist's eye.
I'm actually working on my second one of the year now. It's the first time I have ever tried to paint my own home. I don't think I have ever truly appreciated how pretty this old house is until now, but I am enjoying every line of it and the big ash tree to the back left makes for a dramatic detail against the winter sky. I think it will be quite a special piece when I'm done.
