Prologue

Kristy woke up at precisely 7:00 in the morning and stumbled out of the bed, she felt extremely groggy and had to basically drag herself to the bathroom.

Dark thoughts plagued her mind as she tried to wake up more and get closer to the bathroom mirror.

She didn't have a mom, not anymore. She died of a drug overdose, Kristy didn't know much about that. Her dad kept a lot about her away from Kristy, he was the only one who took care of her now. It was just him and her... now.

Kristy looked at herself in the mirror and immediately started to cry. She never saw herself as beautiful or even pretty.

Kristy bowed her head and took a deep breath. It'll be okay, she thought. After she took a few more deep breaths she looked back up at herself in the mirror. Only this time, she looked different. Everything had changed.

She had darker hair, almost black. Her skin was brighter, clearer, skin tone perfectly even. Her eyes were darker too. Kristy smiled at the mirror. The face in the mirror stayed unchanged and then... it smiled back.

Kristy gasped.

She knew this was weird and it was starting freak her out.

She closed her eyes and counted to ten. She opened her eyes again and looked back into the mirror. The beautiful face was gone now.

Kristy just looked at herself blankly. She turned on the water and splashed her face with it. She didn't know what was going on.

Kristy wasn't used to seeing faces that she didn't know in mirrors. Maybe I need to get some rest, or see a doctor, Kristy thought, a dark smile crossing her lips.

Kristy walked away from the mirror and out the door. She walked down the hall and toward the kitchen. Her dad, she noticed, was already up and making breakfast crazily.

Her dad had bright blonde hair, unlike Kristy's brown locks, with some gray on the sides.

"What are you doing up?" he asked as he poured cereal into a bright blue bowl, for himself. Kristy had to think about that for a second, she sat down at the kitchen table and sighed.

"Up? I'm up because of school, where have you been dad?" Kristy asked, laughing.

"Where have you been, is the question. Today is Saturday... sweetheart. There usually isn't any school on Saturday, last time I checked," he said. He laughed too.

"You've got to be kidding me!" Kristy screamed.

Every time she closed her eyes, she still saw the other girl in the mirror. She wondered who she was and why she getting the vision. She wondered if she was just letting her imagination get the better of her.

"Well, dad, I'll just hop on back into bed, if that's okay with you?" Kristy smiled at her dad as she stood up from the table. She walked back down the hall toward her room. This house was where she grew up and she had always had the same room.

She loved her room; she loved the privacy even more. She had never wished for a sister or brother, not even when she was a child. She had her imaginary friends, like every other kid did in the world. Still, she'd never wanted a sibling.

Kristy walked slowly over to her bed and lay down. She knew that she would dream, probably weird dreams, she had those all the time.

Kristy woke up in a sweat, she looked toward the window. It was still daylight outside.

Thank God she didn't slept the whole day away. She knew her dad would have let her though, he's such a chill and nice guy.

Kristy got up from her bed and walked over to the bathroom, opened the door and gasped at what she saw laying on the floor.
