Chapter 1

The sun beat down on the patchy orange and white tom's coat as he sat on his windowsill and yawned, he yearned to be outside, smelling the fresh air, sunbathing in the dew covered grass, hunting fat prey, and using his senses for a real purpose! He squinted as his eyes adjusted to the light outside the horrible nest that his housefolk entrapped him in. He sighed and flicked his tail in frustration as he stared into the garden of daisies and tulips, his eyes following along the ivy that grew along the garden wall.

"Goldfish! The housefolk filled up our food again, let's go eat! Beetle should be waiting for us." Mewed a dark brown tom from behind him, but Goldfish did not answer. He simply nodded and hopped off the windowsill, touching his nose against his friends own as a greeting. He trudged over to where his fellow housecat Beetle was. Trailing behind him was the longhaired tabby who smiled at Beetle and kept nudging Goldfish to the tasteless brown pellets that his housefolk had left for them. "Rocky! Finally you're back." The smaller tom mewed. "Oh, Goldfish! I haven't seen you all day, how are you?" The grey-blue tabby purred, Goldfish lifted his head and Beetle saw that he was still chewing the rock hard pebble-like 'food' before
Beetle turned his head to the larger tabby beside him.

"So Rocky, how's your day been? I heard you almost caught a real mouse outside!"

Goldfish's ears pricked up while Rocky started rambling about his day, a real mouse? That would be so much better then this dirt! Goldfish stopped eating and swallowed his food roughly before sitting up and looking at his friends with a determined glare in his eyes. "Oh no, what did you think of this time?" The amber eyed blue tabby asked in a sarcastically frightened tone. "Yeah, I hope it isn't like your last idea, that one almost got us sent to the barn on the edge of the housefolk-place!" Rocky stated, the memory flashing by in his head as he shuddered. "No, this time it's a better idea. This time, we're going to catch a mouse!" Goldfish declared, sitting up straight and staring at his friends with his signature smug but still prideful look on his face.

"A real mouse? Are you serious! We'd never be able to catch one." Beetle attempted to remind him, expecting to see a frown form on the toms face. "Well i guess it could work but we have no experience! How are we supposed to catch a real mouse? I lost the one i was trying to catch." Rocky meowed, intrigued but confused on how three housecats were supposed to catch a wild mouse, "It's easy! We just get down.." Goldfish said while slowly getting down into a lopsided crouch. "And pounce!" He suddenly yowled with a smirk right before he jumped straight at Beetle, the silver-blue tabby calmly moved to the left of where he sat and watched as Goldfish flew towards Rocky.

"Wait—!" Rocky mewed, quickly flashing an annoyed look at Beetle before Goldfish crashed into him. As he landed he apologized to Rocky in a quick mumble and walked to the side, sitting down to lick his chest, hiding his embarrassment. It had gotten awkwardly quiet so to fill the air Rocky started speaking.

"Y'know, that wasn't that bad of a pounce, i think we might have a real chance with this hunting thing!" He turned his head to the white and orange tom beside him. "I mean, if i didn't move you might have had an actual chance of getting me, Goldfish." Beetle mewed, looking at him with hopeful eyes. Trying to make up for what he did moments before. "Really? You think we have a chance?" Goldfish responded excitedly, jumping up onto all fours while a loud purr escaped his throat.

"So, how are we gonna catch this mouse, Goldfish?" Beetle asked curiously, looking at the ginger and white housecat. "Yeah, how are we gonna do this?" Rocky asked in a kind purr. "I have an idea."

Over the next few minutes Goldfish, Rocky, and Beetle all huddled together and planned, making sure that they were all clear on what to do. "Alright, so we all understand?" Goldfish asked, a smile of mischief forming on his face, yowls of agreement came from his friends, it made him feel wonderful, as if he was the leader of something greater then what he currently had. He quickly snapped out of it when Beetle realized that the housefolk had grabbed the jingly objects that allowed them to enter the monsters stomachs and were getting ready to leave the nest. "Quick, go out the front!" Goldfish yelped as all his friends got to their feet and ran towards the door just as the housefolk were walking out.

Just as the housefolk left, the three housecats ran out as quick as they could, sprinting to the garden wall and hopping up onto it, praying their housefolk didn't see them. "We—.. We made it!" Goldfish said, panting. "I cant believe it! We're in the great outdoors!" Rocky gasped, looking around in awe. "Shh, look!" Beetle said through closed teeth, tilting his head towards a plump mouse that happened to be snacking on a seed on the opposite side of the garden.

The forest.

Goldfish's mind was racing, all he could focus on was the mouse. He licked his lips and hopped down from the garden wall, sliding down the smooth concrete bricks, keeping his eyes focused on his prey. He had this dream for so long, was it finally coming true? He got into another crouch, different this time. It was better, but still not that of a skilled hunter. "You can do this, Goldfish!" Rocky whisper shouted, "I can do this." Goldfish repeated,
The affirmation made him feel like he could do anything. He was shocked that he felt so full of power in this moment.

Goldfish made a pounce at the wild field mouse, but he was suddenly rammed in the side by a heavy object. A sour scent filled his nose as he flew through the air. "Another cat?" He thought, but before he could finish his thought he landed on the ground, looking up at a handsome sleek black tom who had bright green eyes and a distinctive notch in his left ear. "What are you doing in our forest, kittypet?" he sneered, looking down at Goldfish with a harsh stare before pinning him down with one of his big, dark paws. "Hold on!" Goldfish yelped, "What do you mean our forest, who's our? And what's a kittypet?"  He mewed in confusion, "Ours means the clans. Like my clan, Marshclan. It is not a place for kittypets like you." The black tom grumbled, staring at him with distaste. "What's Marshclan? And you still haven't answered all my questions." Goldfish asked again, starting to forget about the situation he was in. "Ugh, Marshclan is the greatest clan in the forest. We're the strongest, smartest, and most agile, and for your other flea-brained question. A kittypet is a soft cat who's never had to be shown to the hardships of the forest like us."

"I'm not some stupid soft cat—" Goldfish suddenly got cut off as the large tom got thrown off of him. He looked to his side to see what had pushed the Marshclan tom off and saw the silhouettes of two cats. Beetle and Rocky! Goldfish got up and ran over to them and gave them both a lick on the ear as a thanks. "Who's this guy?" Rocky asked, jumping towards the biggest tom before he could get up, unsheathing his claws in a precautious hiss. "I am Longviper. Medicine cat of MarshClan, though i don't see why you would need to know." The mysterious tom said with calm eyes. "Longviper? What kind of name is that?" Beetle asked, curious about the toms unusual name.

Longviper sighed and sat up, "Longviper is what we would call a clan name, it's two words that are meant for you. Two cats cannot have the same clan name. though there can be two cats named Longviper and Longear, there cannot be two cats who hold ownership of one name." He begrudgingly meowed, eyeing them sourly. But something that he would never expect is to catch a glimpse of something far greater then the annoying kittypets he had caught stealing prey from the forest. The fluffy brown tabby suddenly was sat in front of a fierce blazing tiger, the grey-blue tabby with the sleek pelt was sat infront of a gorgeous leopard, and the orange and white patchy tom was sat infront of something that even the greatest of clans could not fight.

Behind the young tom was a lion, one that every cat in the clans knew of.

The leader of Lionclan himself.

Goldenstar.
