Chapter 4
"I, I'm a, uh." He stuttered and suddenly his whole face lit red. I knew then that he was nervous.
"A what?" I urged, wanting him to quickly explain what he was. I impatiently tapped my foot to a song in my head.
"I'm immortal," Emers said, suddenly fidgeting with the hem of his sleeve.
At that, I bursted out laughing. "R-really? You've got to be kidding me!" I wiped a tear from my face that escaped my eye.
Emers gripped at his long hair, suddenly frustrated. He let out a long and heavy sigh and suddenly he looked serious "No I'm not kidding. How do you think my eyes turned silver? Or my hair? And no, it wasn't your imagination and you're not going crazy." He panted and closed his eyes.
I hadn't thought of that, suddenly it all came to realization to me. He was actually immortal and I wasn't going crazy. It wasn't a figment of my imagination. "Wha? H-how is that even possible!?" I exasperatedly replied. I took three steps beck and I was suddenly scared. "I didn't think it was true." I whispered quietly.
He had heard me "Well, I actually can't believe it myself." He forced a small laugh while shaking his head, and then he paused. "You're scared aren't you?" Concern was written on his face and in his voice.
"Yes." I mumbled. I wanted to get away from him, to go somewhere he wasn't. Suddenly, his black hair changed before my eyes and turned into the silvery color it was when he was fighting those men, his eyes had also turned to a silvery color. I fought back a whimper that had been rising in my throat. The veins in his hands were more prominent and glowing a bright blue. I stared at him in awe, it looked as if he had grown five inches taller.
His face contorted as if he was in pain. He gripped at his silver hair and fell to the ground in a fetal position. He whimpered and gripped at the grass around him. Horrified, my eyes started to water, I put a fist in my mouth to keep myself from sobbing. I didn't like seeing him in pain.
"Ar-are you okay?" I was concerned and wanted to help him, but didn't know what to do. It seemed as if he didn't hear me and kept withering in pain.
He tried reaching put his hand but failed tramendously. "Ple-please g-get C-Callie." I nodded wearily.
"Stay, stay there. Don't move." I pointed a shaky finger at him. "I'll be right back. I'm going to get help." I turned on my heel and stumbled a little only to recatch my balance. I sprinted to the front of the restaurant.
"Emers. Needs. Help." I panted to C A L L I E. My voice was weak as I tried to catch my breath.
She looked at me with wide eyes and darted out the door. I stood rigid, wondering if she had witnessed what he had done before.
After a few seconds of gathering my thoughts together, I ran off after C A L L I E in hopes that she had helped him. When I had gotten to where I left Emers, I saw that he was no where to be found and C A L L I E wasn't anywhere.
"Where are you guys?" I mumbled to myself. I was suddenly aware that I was completely and utterly alone outside. "You're really creeping me out, it's not funny." Tears pricked my vision, wanting to escape.
I started crying quietly, afraid to make any noise incase I got kidnapped. As soon as I let out a shaky breath, I heard the breaking of a twig. I whipped around and came face to face with a big bear. Eyes wide and scared to death, I slowly backed away, not tearing eye contact away from the behemoth.
What shocked me the most was that the bear didn't even attack or come near me. Instead, it was holding Emers in its arms. "Wh-what's happening?" I quietly asked myself. I pinched my arm thinking that it was just a dream, but nothing happened. I was still there right infront of the bear. Suddenly, as if by magic, the bear transformed before my eyes and in its place was C A L L I E. She slowly but gently laid down Emers on the ground.
"Sorry for scaring you dear." C A L L I E apologized. "Sometimes I can't help myself." She sheepishly smiled.
"I-is he alright? What happened? Why did that happen?" I suddenly started bambarming her with questions. I was so confused and scared.
"He's fine, just a little too excited's all, probably from telling you his biggest secret. And, sometimes when he gets angry or scared or even happy, he does that kind of thing. But nothing like this." She chuckled to herself, amused at what she said about him. "Sometimes I wish he didn't have to go through that much pain. He's just so young, still a child." She wiped a tear that had fallen upon her cheek.
"G-guys?" We heard the gruff voice of Emers, it had sounded like he had just woken up. He leaned back against his elbows, squinting up at us. That was when I realized that his eyes hadn't changed back to their original blue.
"Yes darling?" C A L L I E questioned slowly.
"M-my hair hasn't changed back." He mumbled quietly -just enough for us to hear-, lifting a piece of his hair. He frowned while looking down at his hands, they were still their normal color. "But, why is my hair still like this?" His hair and eyes were still the silvery grey. I was worried and bout him. C A L L I E looked concerned. She scurried beside him, bending down to his level.
"Look in my eyes." Emers did and his eyes turned brighter. "This, this isn't good." Her frown deepened.
"What's wrong?" Emers asked shakily.
"It seems as if you're becoming a pure immortal and leaving behind your human side." C A L L I E spoke slowly but cautiously, careful not to get him riled up.
"Wha-what?" He sputtered, jerking his face away from her grasp. "That's not possible!" His face had turned red, he was angry.
"Calm down!" I spoke loudly. My voice cracking at the end of my sentence. "You're not helping your situation if you keep screaming."
"Okay." He took in a shaky breath.
"So, who are we getting help from?" I casually questioned.
"Dr Miope." When she saw our confused faces, she continued "He lives all the way in Manhattan, but if we take a plane there, we should arrive by Friday."
Emers looked from C A L L I E then to me. "So, when are we leaving?"
