A year after
2016 had slipped out of everyone's hands in the blink of an eye. With it, it had taken regrets of bad decisions but it had been compassionate enough to leave some of the peace of good decisions, such as those made by Chitthip Manoban.
Marco missed her every night when he went to bed and every morning when he woke up, the bed was too big for a single person, regardless of his considerable height and that belly that he had gained over the years, which his daughter loved to hug.
The house also felt very big without Lisa.
His little princess possessed a courage that stole his smiles every day, that challenged him to scold her or praise her for being so intelligent.
But she was happy now, and her mother too, away from him.
They weren't lying when they said that the greatest proof of love is letting go but that didn't take away the pain of loneliness.
At least, every night his daughter gave him a call and told him about her day, with that same bubbly energy that she had since she had learned to laugh in the first months of life.
He still remembered that moment when he had her in one of his arms while he was working in his office, he had dropped papers on the floor and to pick them up with the baby on top he had to use one of his feet to lift them, however when he lifted the tight grip of his toes loosened and he tried to do everything to keep them from failing, basically kicking them up, which was a very bad idea: the papers rained down on them. He cursed but a soft, airy chuckle froze him and slowly he looked down at his arm. The baby's huge brown eyes were shining with joy and her mouth had parted, revealing an adorable gummy smile, trembling with laughter.
