As I followed the rest of my peers off the bus, Mr. Wilson was telling everyone not to miss the bus because it waits for no one. But then Will arrived at the front and Mr. Wilson gave him special treatment and his business card. Will wasn't asking for special treatment, but he wasn't exactly fighting it. Then again, Mr. Wilson didn't mean any harm by it. He was just being overly friendly because he was stars struck.
We finally made it off the bus and got a good look around. As all the freshmen walked in a large group, we saw two boys staring at a pretty girl. One of them shot lasers from his eyes at her ass. They deserved to be turned into human ice cubes. It was cool to see another cryokinetic. Looking away, I caught a glimpse of two girls flying above us before landing on the steps. I had to admit, this place was pretty interesting. Layla nudged my arm and we turned our heads towards a group of cheerleaders. They all looked eerily similar. When they finished their welcome cheer, all the girls merged into the head cheerleader.
"Clones. Interesting," I whispered to Layla. She nodded in agreement before we both burst into laughter. Our laughter was interrupted by a continuous gust of wind. I risked a peak and saw something or someone running around all the freshmen, corralling us like sheep. The person stopped in front of us, revealing a heavy-set boy.
"Hey, freshmen! Your attention please," he announced while a tall, skinny boy (his friend, I presumed) joined us by stretching down the steps like a slinky.
The lanky boy declared, "I'm Lash. Uh, this is Speed. As representatives of the Sky High welcoming committee..."
"We'd be happy to collect that $15 new student fee," Speed finished as Lash stretched his arm out to a small African American boy in all orange.
"Um, there was nothing about a new student fee in the handbook." I got ready to intervene in case these obvious bullies tried something. But before anything could happen, two girls appeared; one with straight brown hair and all pink clothes, the other with straight black hair, dark eyes, dark makeup, and dark clothes.
They both had a smile plastered on their faces as the one in pink playfully chastised, "Okay, guys. Very funny. I'll take over from here." The bullies stalked away, but not before Lash dipped the dark girl back, pressing a rough kiss to her lips. She nipped at his lower lip teasingly before pushing him to follow Speed.
"Hey, everybody. I'm Gwen Grayson, your student body president," Pinky said after turning to our group. "And this is Morgan Pierce, Vice President." Gwen went on to describe her time at Sky High before listing all the rules. Bored, I looked over at Layla only to see that she was staring at Will who in turn was staring adoringly at President Bubblegum. While Layla was in denial about her feelings, if she couldn't admit it to herself, let alone others, there was no chance that oblivious Will would figure it out. He seemed to be absorbed in himself because of his nonexistent powers and now President Bubblegum. This wasn't going to end well.
I grasped Layla's hand in support as Gwen finished her spiel. "If you can remember those few simple rules, I promise you will not fall off the edge of the school."
"Though it would make for an interesting story," Morgan added snidely, a genuine mask on her face. Her words made my gut twist, and I made a note to keep an eye on her.
Gwen forced out a laugh and nudged her friend's shoulder. "She's kidding. Follow us inside for orientation."
Will had a lost look in his eye and looked back at Layla and me, "Rules? What rules?"
"Weren't you paying attention?" Because of Layla's desperate tone, and the fact that our tour guides' backs were turned, I forced my eyes away from Morgan and squeezed Layla's hand in support.
