'So, how did it go?', his mum asked him as they were eating dinner together. Hyunjin suppressed the urge to groan and complain about how horrid everything about his day with Santa's elves was.
'It was alright.', he mumbled and judging by the look his mother was giving him, she seemed perfectly aware of what was actually going through her son's mind right now.
'Sure it was.', she dug her fork in the steak on her plate and tried to cut it with a dull knife but eventually sighed in frustration and dropped her cutlery. Hyunjin looked at her and the frail pale hands of hers, before rising from his seat and reaching out to grab her plate.
He could feel her eyes on him but he disregarded it as he kept slicing up her steak in small pieces and then put the plate back in front of her.
'You need to eat.', Hyunjin simply said as he focused on his own dinner now.
'Thank you, Hyun.', she barely whispered and the elf knew very well how much it took for her to say those words, even if she couldn't say them in anything more than a plain whisper. He still appreciated the effort.
'Did you take your medicine today?', he asked her and she rolled her eyes in annoyance, clearly showing which parent Hyunjin resembled the most.
'Yeah, yeah.', she answered in between slow chews, 'I still want to know more about your day though. Be honest and tell me how it was.', his mother persisted as the boy sipped on his water and tried to clear his throat.
'It sucked ass.', Hyunjin grumbled and his mum choked on her food slightly, before letting out a laugh.
'Yeah, figured.', he narrowed his eyes on her.
'Then why make me go? You enjoy watching me suffer that much, mum?', the woman wiped a tear underneath her eye, which had threatened to fall in the midst of laughing at her own child's misery. Unbelievable.
'I told you, I'm tired of everyone complaining to me about your attitude.', the brunette puffed at that, 'Plus, I do think that it might turn out interesting.', she smirked devilishly and Hyunjin threw a napkin in her direction.
'Great, so you use your firstborn, your one and only child, purely for your own entertainment.', the boy gasped in fake offense as his mother laughed more at that, throwing her head back.
'Can you blame me? It gets boring in this house and village.', she sent him a smile and Hyunjin nodded furiously, relating to that statement on a spiritual level.
'Mmhm.', he muffled as he shoved more mashed potatoes in his mouth. 'Well, I spent the first two hours checking in 102(!) elves', his mum gasped and theatrically covered her mouth with the palm of her hand.
'Then, I spent the next six hours dealing with annoying paperwork regarding the gift deliveries and that was pretty much it', Hyunjin shrugged as he stubbornly pushed away the uncalled for memories of blue eyes which tried to invade his mind.
However, his mother stayed silent, as if expecting to hear something more. He swore that the woman had telepathic abilities or something.
'Uhm', he took another sip of water, 'But like- have you ever heard of fairies living around here?', he asked his mum and sheepishly looked back at her and the surprised expression on her face.
'Fairies?', she looked to the side in thought, 'Well, I remember hearing rumours, many years ago, about an elf getting married to a fairy and moving away to live with her in the South, but that's pretty much it.', his mum tapped her chin as Hyunjin frowned.
If Felix's parents had moved to the fairies' lands then why would he be here now? The whole situation was an absolute mystery to him and he felt frustrated that he couldn't pick out what was the deal about Felix's life.
