When Oberon, Melody and Liam came back into the room, they'd brought me a drink and said the food in the cafeteria was unacceptable and they were having some decent food delivered for all of us. The food arrived twenty minutes later, and I noticed Oberon's color was back to normal after he ate. It was hard to watch him on the sly since he seemed to be watching me constantly, but whenever anyone asked him a question and he turned to them, I let my eyes drink their fill as the conversation buzzed quietly around me.
I dozed off and when I woke up, only Oberon was left in the room, holding Fitz. The lights were off, just a glow from the monitors bathing the room in a soft light.
"Sorry," I said, scooting up in the bed before I shot him a look. "Not sure why I'm so tired when you did all the hard work during labor."
"Nan talks too much," he said, arching a brow at me.
I wiggled my hands for the baby, and he handed over our prionsa who was sound asleep.
"Honestly, I'm glad she filled me in, Oberon. Otherwise I would have gone on and on about the fae taking my pain."
His smile was brilliant. "I didn't do it for the credit, Daisy. I did it so you wouldn't hurt." He took a step closer and leaned down so those lips were almost on mine. "And I love that I'm Oberon again. You have no idea how that fucked me up when you called me Burr."
"Well, don't mess up and make me take it away again because that would be it."
He moved even closer, his lips just barely touching mine when he spoke. "I don't intend to mess up with you ever again."
Then he pressed his mouth to mine -- an apology for the bitter past and a sweet promise for the future, all in one. Then he leaned back a bit to look at me, his silver eyes flashing with emotion.
"I told you a while ago that I wasn't going to ask for your forgiveness right then, Daisy, because I hadn't even come close to earning it. But I also told you that someday, when I did ask, I hoped I'd be a man you could forgive."
"Oh, I remember that conversation."
"I'm asking today, Daisy-my-Daisy. Have I become a man you can forgive?"
Looking into his face, I knew the answer. "Yes."
"Will you forgive me?"
I knew the answer to that, too. "Yes, Oberon, I forgive you."
He pressed a kiss to my lips. "Thank you, Daisy." There was a mixture of relief and gratitude in his voice. "Now watch, my queen, because this is for you."
Then Oberon took a step back from me, his beautiful silver eyes locked on mine, his face intense.
"Everyone bows to the king, and the king bows to no one," he said in low tones. "Except for one person. The king bows to no one but his queen."
I just watched him closely, not saying anything, barely daring to breathe.
"I bowed to you once before, Daisy, and I never even thought twice about it. Do you remember when?"
"Sit on the edge of the bed, Daisy."
I did, and he knelt before me between my legs, his strong hands holding my legs apart and the sensation of him touching me felt electric, as if he was a live wire running over my skin, making me tingle.
"I've always wanted to taste a daisy," he said, and then he lowered his head and licked me between my legs and I jolted at the first thrust of his tongue.
"That would be hard to forget, Oberon." Was my voice hoarse?
"I'd never before knelt for a woman, Daisy-daze. I'd never used my mouth on a woman before, and I'd never let a woman use her mouth on me. You were my first and my only, and it didn't register with me that I was on my knees for you, essentially worshipping you. You brought a king to his knees without even trying."
