[name] yawned as she finished scanning a customer's groceries.

"your total is $43.87, here's your receipt."

the man grunted, snatched it from her, and waited impatiently for xiao to finish bagging his groceries. when xiao handed the man his last bag, the man quickly grabbed it from his hands and stomped out of the store.

[name] sighed and sat down on her stool since there were no more customers in sight.

"why do we always get grumpy, rude customers, xiao?" she asked.

"it's a friday night. people are tired and grumpy from being at work all week," he said. "plus, it's almost 10. i think we're in charge of closing today."

"ugh, not the closing shift," [name] groaned. "tell me something interesting, please, xiao, so i don't fall asleep."

"um, you're going to a party with scaramouche tomorrow?"

"i'm what..?"

"[name], did you forget about earlier..."

she racked her brain for events that happened earlier today until finally recalling lunchtime. "oh, haha, yea, i forgot." she laughed sheepishly before remembering something. "oh my archons, i don't have an outfit to wear. he said it was a somewhat formal party! and it's a birthday party! i need to get a gift, don't i? what do i get for kaeya who's rich as hell?" she looked at xiao with panic. "help me."
